Planning our 1st tript to DL June 2015 with 72yr old mom & 12yr old niece. We've been to WDW and love it & mom's pickiness hasn't been to hard to deal with, because there are sooo many resturants in the parks, downtown Disney & at resorts to choose from.

I've been looking a little at the offerings at DL & CA and not sure where mom can eat? She will just about eat any meat if it's only seasoned with salt & pepper, likes crab legs with hot butter to dip in or fish & chips. That's it! She'll eat one, maybe two burgers during our 3-4 day stay, but what are we going to feed her the rest of the time!

Anyone have suggestions? Really didn't want to stray too far, we won't have a car & would really like to spend our full day in the parks or very close by. We are die hards and don't like to waste our time traveling for food.

Other kicker is she is cheap! We've always had WDW dining plan & she enjoyed buffet meals at Grand Flordian hotel, crab leg dinner at a resturant @ the Yacht club hotel, and fish & chips at a resturant in Downtown Disney.

Does anyone know if there are nearby resturants you get breakfast during the day. She likes eggs, pancakes, french toast, for dinner.

Hoping someone can give me some good ideas, if not this could keep us from coming to DL, at least with my mom.

TIA

My first thought would be the Denny's right across the street from the Disneyland entrance. They have the breakfast items you mentioned and are cheap. Doesn't Denny's do breakfast 24/7? And I believe they don't season their food too much.

A lot of the places in the park serve the items you mentioned for breakfast as well, although they're not so cheap and don't serve breakfast 24/7.

If she were my mother, I would make a list of all restaurants that will give you a cup of hot water for free, then carry along packets of instant oatmeal.

Denny's may be our savior! Not mom's favorite, but yes they do serve breakfast 24/7 - thanks for that bit of information. I've not been to the area, so had no idea what would be available.

Alvornon90 - thanks for the oatmeal idea, but she won't eat it!:rotfl2:

There's Denny's & IHOP directly across from the main entrance to DL. Does she do sandwiches or pizza? There's Earl of Sandwich in DTD as well as an excellent build your own pizza place, called Pizza Press (I think) which across the street but still close. Also, there's a Coco's and Tiffany's on Katella close to the end of DTD.

My Mom is not a picky eater, but is limited to what she can eat due to some medical issues. Like your Mom, she can't have anything that is over-seasoned (to her!!). She found plenty to eat at Disneyland. Her favorites were the mashed potatoes and chicken at the Plaza, the mac and cheese at Earl of Sandwich, and chicken noodle soup (??). She also purchsed the fresh cut up fruit a time or two including pineapple spears, grapes, and watermelon. You can also order a plain cheese pizza delivered to your hotel one night.

She often can't eat the whole meal, but will see "sides" that she can tolerate. Disney is really good about just bring you those if you request. My Mom also likes peanut butter crackers and always carries those along with her. In a pinch, they substitute for a meal. We also made a trip to 7-11 for some items she could have including cheese slices, cottage cheese, ham slices, and crackers.

Edited to add: Check out the kids meals for her as well. My Mom also ordered from those a time or two with success. I remember one that included a plain, grilled chicken breast.

I hope you have a great trip!

Golden Horseshoe/Stage Door Cafe has fish & chips. Do you think she'd like the chicken or beef skewers at Bengal BBQ if they make them without the sauce? I'm not sure whether they put the spices on the meat that they do on the veggies but they could probably make the meat without that too. Riverbelle terrace has blandly spiced but very tasty roast beef and roast turkey sandwiches and entrees - maybe order without the spiced mayos/gravies. I think the best burgers are at Storyteller's and Jazz Kitchen Express - at Jazz Kitchen they put garlic mayo on - we order them without it so I don't know if it is spicy. Will she eat meatballs? Boardwalk pizza has mild beef meatballs - a side of 2 large meatballs is only 2.50 and they don't have to put sauce on them. They also have small very bland turkey meatball pasta dish on the kid's menu there.

Flo's V-8 cafe has turkey, pork and beef roast. They usually come with gravy or sauce, but you could ask for it plain. The meat is not heavily seasoned. You can also choose your sides which include mashed potatoes, coleslaw, pasta salad, etc.

If she likes seafood, maybe she'll like the clam chowder in the bread bowl at Pacific Wharf?

There's also a McDonald's and Tony Roma's across the street, if all else fails.

As others have mentioned, many of the Disney venues will try their best to accommodate you by leaving off sauces. If it's a sauce, you might consider asking for it to be put on the side (in a container), that way she can taste it and decide if she wants it or not.

In addition to the Denny's on Harbor, there is also Anaheim Garden Walk (a mall like place) near by. It has some chain restaurants (like Johnny Rockets, PF Chang, California Pizza Kitchen, etc.).

I have a family member with special dietary needs, so I know what you are talking about.
When you arrive, shop at grocery store for all special food items for the stay. Bring along any special items you might not be able to find in Anaheim.

You also mention
Other kicker is she is cheap!
have her look at all the menus in the parks with you. This way she can see all the options and the cost.

You might also look into the various food items that can be mixed with Hot Water and served for a meal. Have her try some of them now to see which might work.

Walking over to Denny's or IHOP for meals is going to take a chunk of time.

You have almost a year to figure it out.

Good Luck

At DCA grab your burger at Taste Pilots Grill. Air conditioned...

Pizza Port in DL has pizza and Chicken Cesar.

I would perhaps check into the French Market if they would accommodate this.

We always eat outside the park for Breakfast to get more rides in in the morning...

I'm a picky eater too and I didn't have any problems eating at DL. I don't know where you're staying, but Steakhouse 55 at the DLH has delicious and very reasonably priced breakfast. A few of my other favorites were the fried chicken at Plaza Inn (DL), Big Thunder Ranch BBQ (DL), the Pork at Flo's (DCA), and sandwiches at Earl of Sandwich (DTD).

If she doesn't like Denny's too much, I'd suggest Mimi's cafe in front of the Marriott on South Harbor (right across the street from DL). They offer breakfast until 11:30 a.m. Mon-Fri. Unfortunately, it's not 24/7, but their French toast is delicious! They also have fish & chips for lunch and dinner, which is nice because it's another thing your mom likes. It's always been a favorite of mine, so check it out. :)

Except Mimi's is closed. ;)
