sorry, I am sure there is a thread or two on this subject already but I was unable to locate it. If someone could guide me to the right direction that would be great. I have a vegeterian traveling in our group on an upcoming trip and would like suggestions on the best places to eat in the world. we will be on the dining plan so I would like to make it worth their while if possible. I have seen most of the menus but have no idea what/where is actually a good place to go. Thanks for your help.

There are several articles and guides available on the Special Dietary Needs page of Allearsnet. Just click that link and scroll down to the bottom. If you have some more specific questions after reading that general information, please check back here and post them!

Okay, I'm the typical lacto-ovo vegetarian (I eat eggs and dairy), so I'll weigh in:

Breakfasts are a no-brainer, buffets are generally a good choice, and especially Boma in AKL (a big fave amongst the vegetarian crowd). In the sit-down restaurants, there is typically always at least one veggie main dish available, more at some Italian restaurants. I have not seen one listed at Yak and Yeti, but recently have read that you can order food off-menu. There is a separate vegetarian menu at San Angel Inn in Epcot's Mexico; you have to ask for it.

Counter service is trickier; less potential for ordering things off the menu. Vegetarians have had luck at: Columbia Harbour House, Main Street Bakery and Cosmic Ray's in MK; Tangierine Cafe and Sunshine Seasons in Epcot; Rosie's, ABC Comissary and Pizza Planet in MGM; Restaurantosaurus and Pizzafari in AK. AK is the WORST park for vegetarian food, so beware.

Make sure that all your ADRs note the vegetarian in your party, and make sure you know what this person will or will not eat. Sometimes we make allowances for vacation and eat things like gelatin or animal broth that we wouldn't eat at home. Sometimes we're just as picky about the "purity" of our vegetarian meals. Also, some people describe themselves as vegetarian when they're actually not (they eat fish, or they just don't eat red meat--which I find hilarious).

My DH is vegetarian and he's never had a problem finding something to eat at every Table Service restaurant we've been to. If there's nothing on the menu, the chef will happily make a special dish.

Some of his favourite places to eat are Boma, Jiko, California Grill, Artist Point, Wolfgang Pucks and Spoodles had a nice selection of vegetarian appetisers. I pick restaurants based on the vegetarian choices on the menu, to ensure he's not eating pasta every night.

For CS I think Sunshine Seasons and Columbia Harbour House offer the most unique veggie choices, but every place will have something even if it's the standard cheese pizza.

What parks will you be in?

I'm vegetarian (lacto-ovo--I eat dairy and eggs). Most table service restaurants have one veggie entree. Most counter service kiosks do, too. Some of my favorite places to eat in the parks are:

Magic Kingdom--I like the Lighthouse Sandwich at Columbia Harbor House. Main Street Bakery usually has a vegetarian sandwich that's very tasty, but it's often not sitting out (you have to ask for it). Both of these are counter service.

Animal Kingdom--not much to eat for us vegetarians. I usually have pizza at Pizzafari (the decor is fantastic, by the way! :) ). I LOVED the pizza and the veggie burger at Rainforest Cafe.

Epcot--my favorite table service meals are the macaroni and cheese at Chefs de France, the vegetarian plate at San Angel Inn in Mexico (ask for the vegetarian menu--it's not on the regular menu), and vegetable curry at the Rose and Crown. My favorite counter service at Epcot is Sunshine Seasons for the grilled vegetable cuban sandwich. I also like to get the chips at the fish and chips kiosk in the UK--they are fried separately from the fish so they are tryuly vegetarian.

Studios--We don't spend a lot of time at the Studios, but ate at Mama Melrose earlier this year and loved it! Hated the food at the ABC comissary (nasty vegetarain wrap that made me queasy).

Be careful at the counter services in the World Showcase where the cast members don't speak English well--at the Mexican Cantina, the cast members clearly did not understand what I was asking re: vegetarian dishes. They used to have a vegetarian black bean burrito dish but the last time I was there they only offered a salad for vegetarians.

Your friend will find plenty of food as long as she is not vegan--there don't seem to be a lot of vegan entres.

We carnivores have traveled with a veggysaurus before. Disney World is pretty easy for that. We really enjoyed Boma together. The veggie even got my meats and potatoes guy to try some of her food. And at 50s Prime Time, she ordered a turkey sandwich without the turkey and was immediately presented with four or five veggy options that were not on the menu. She's never had a problem getting good food at Disney World which is one of the reasons she loves to visit. Although it did have one bad influence on her. She cheated with the fish and chips in the United Kingdom. She said if she ever was going to cheat it would be with something good and something at Disney World.

Thank you so much for all of your sugestions. I was worried she would be stuck with mickey mac N cheese for the whole trip. Now, I love it and would eat it everyday if I could :cloud9: but if that was my only choice I might go crazy. Looks like Boma is in for sure. just 4 more nights to think about. I will check with her to see how stringent she is with the fish/no fish. I never thought of that since that would open up a lot more choices if she ate seafood. I will let the cm notate on our adr's she is a vegetarian. that is good to know that the have some off the menu items available.
