I am heading to WDW to run the Star Wars Dark Side Half in April. It is just me. I need to pick a resort. I have been very lucky (and spoiled) in my previous Disney trips. I don't want to pay for a deluxe for just myself. Suggest a a resort and tell me why I will be happy there.

Thanks,

I would go for an Epcot-area resort, because after a running event, you want to eat all the things, and many runners I know enjoy an adult beverage. That is Epcot.

Boardwalk or Yacht Club are the two most grown up options. I would say Boardwalk, because while YC has the big epic pool, they don't have much in the way of adult/quiet pool. BW is classy. It's main downer is lousy counter service.

But the access to Epcot and th Boardwalk area is great.

PS: The Boardwalk have a giant clown in their feature pool. So if you hate clowns, def consider Yacht Club. Yacht Club is too classy for clowns.

That's a pretty broad and subjective request. Not to be rude, but whichever resort you can comfortably afford is my recommendation! I agree with Epcot as that is where most adults like to be with all the options for food and drink and activities. However, knowing nothing about you, I have no idea what would make you happy -- are you a quiet read a book person, life of the party dancing on the bars type, you clearly are into fitness, so a deluxe would make sense for having a gym, but you need to provide more info.

By far my favorite area is the Boardwalk at night. If I were alone, and budget allowed, I would pick Yacht Club. Beach Club is really busy with young families and being exhausted I would want the more peaceful atmosphere of YC.

If budget is a concern my pick would be French Quarter.

whoops, looks like I left a sentence out - feeling guilty about the amount of money I am spending - don't want to pay for a deluxe for just me. What are the nicest non-deluxe options?

Since it's just you going, and the trip wont impact others, i would set the bar low and go for for something that wont make you happy. Therefore, every future trip in comparison will be magical! Why ya trying to shoot for the stars right off the bat?

:teeth:

POR. Hot tub, pretty surroundings, space to walk it out after the run.

But don't feel guilty just bc its just you. Before I knew my cousin was joining me I booked bay lake for princess. Yes with points but it's a decent amount of points. I deserve the fancier place just as much as if the family were joining me.

I'd stay at the Swan or Dolphin. With a discount, the price s about the same as a moderate plus you still get the Epcot resort area location.

You'd be happy at any of the downtown resorts, I think.

Well, (not to be rude) but you'll be about as happy as YOU *decide* to be at whatever resort you choose.

With that said, I would choose POR or POFQ.

I would recommend Carribbean Beach! We just stayed there in September and all the rooms had been refurbed (minus the pirate rooms). Everything was so clean and new and was so nice! We really enjoyed the space ( since its just you you can splurge on a king if you want like we did)! I booked through orbitz and the king was actually cheaper than the 2 beds and I had an extra coupon code. I love being able to walk around the lake as well! Pools were great and it was close to Epcot and Hollywood Studios so bus rides weren't long! Definitely recommend it!

I agree with the suggestion to go with the Swan. The location is great and you get almost all of the same perks as a Disney owned resort. You won't get the bus to/from the airport but you can book FP+ at 60 days, ADR as a resort guest and take advantage of EMH. All of the Swan rooms have just been renovated and the pool is really nice.

I would go with POR if I didn't want to do deluxe but I don't see any reason not to do deluxe just because you are solo, I do it all the time.

As far as Swan, if you are comparing prices, make sure you add in the $25 a day resort fee, it doesn't show up on the website until you get ready to actually book. Also, if you have a car there is a parking fee, even for self parking so that would need to be factored in.

As far as BW compared to BC/YC and the pools, both YC and BC have a quiet pool. The YC one is hidden from view so it is real quiet. YC also tends to run a little less than BC, not sure why but I'm thankful it does.

If you want a small, compact resort with boat access to Disney Springs, POFQ would work nicely.

If you want a mod resort with gym facilities and more food and drink facilities, I'd opt for CSR, giving serious thought to a Business Class room, for access to their private lounge.
