OK, we are supposed to be flying to Fort Myers tomorrow for a vacation at Captiva Island....which does not seem like it's going to happen! I talked my anti-Disney DH into keeping our flights and driving to Disney. He only wants to do it if we can stay at AKL. I called and the price is $199 for a standard room with 2 queen beds, but the lady said we can't stay there with a family of 5! She said we'd have to go with a deluxe at $275 or 2 standards. Should I try to call back or this strictly enforced? I told the lady that we would go to Universal instead! And that's what we'll do if they really won't allow 5 in a standard room. Anyway, I just thought I'd see if it's worth to keep trying. Thanks!

Unforunately, the standard rooms at AKL only allow 4 people. There are only two queens and no additional bedding for the fifth person. If the fifth person can sleep in a pcak-n-play (meaning under 3) you'd be fine. Otherwise, you do need the deluxe room, which would have a queen, set of bunks and a day bed.

I'm all for saving $$$ but as a larger family who has been to WDW many times believe me you will be MUCH more comfortable in the larger room. How old are your kids and how many of them will sleep in one bed ? They will not give you a roll-away or anything so how would you sleep so many? We now have 4 kids and joined DVC so we could get a 2 bedroom condo everytime, and my kids STILL fight over who gets to sleep solo. Sounds like you don't really want to go to WDW, I would love AKL, but we can't even fit in a deluxe!

I don't want to advocate being dishonest, but if a family with small children wanted to try it and get a room with bunk beds and let two of the little ones share the bottom bunk, what would it hurt?

Isn't there a code out there for general use for August? Check on mousesavers and then call CRO back and request that code discount rate. I think you'll have to use a delux room. That's just the way WDW is. Drove me crazy trying to figure out how to afford to take a family of 5.

Thanks for all the replies! I will admit I considered being dishonest, but I'm not a good liar, and am prone to feeling guilty! The beds weren't a problem for us, as my 3 kids (ages 11, 6, and 4) sometimes even share a double bed. A queen is plenty for the 3 of them. But rules are rules I guess. I really did want to go AKL, but there weren't any current discount codes, and this trip is so unexpected! DH insisted we stay at Universal since it's cheaper. I should add that when I called Disney the second time the cheapest room that would hold us all was $340....MUCH more expensive than the $202 we're paying at Portofino Bay. Anyway, we'll still go to AK, and maybe even try to visit the AKL so I can talk him into a future visit when I'm able to pull together some good discounts!
Thanks again for the info and advice!

Portofino Bay for $202!! Wow that's a great rate!! Is that with Entertainment card? AP? Fan Club? AAA? Remember if you stay at the Universal resorts, you get the FOTL!

I think you could get 2 rooms at a moderate for a great price

A standard wing room at the contemporary can sleep 5. It has 2 queen beds and a sofa bed. If you can get it at a good rate, that's what I would try. I enjoyed our stay at the CR last summer.

Call back and see if you can use code AZZ at the contempory....looks like it should be $159 plus tax...

Thanks for further replies...I can tell this board will be a great resource when we DO stay at Disney in the future.

I didn't try the AZZ code because mousesavers said it is for check-ins Aug 29-Sept 29 and we're checking in Aug 17 (tomorrow!) I suppose I should've tried anyway though...I hate to think I passed a chance to get AKL for $159! The Contemporary was booked....I would love to stay there someday as well as AKL.

I thought Portofino for $202 was great too...and that's for a deluxe room (which was all they had available)! It's an AP rate.

I can't believe we leave tomorrow! (We were supposed to already be on Captiva Island, but they're closed due to hurricane damage).

Thanks for the help!

Port orleans reiverside will fit 5. They have a trundle bed that pulls out. Thats where we stay and we love it there!

I've got to tell you...I've seen on the travel agents forms or somewhere, that they don't count the child if they're 3 years old. (I dont see what difference a 4 year old).
I would double up the two youngest myself, its very expensive to take families on vacations these days, why miss out because of a technicality.

I'm dealing with the 'five' people problem too, but my kids are teens.
