Help! I'm trying to plan a vacation for my family for May 2003. I originally intended to book a 4 night Land/3 night cruise package.

Now here's the wrinkle - I'm considering purchasing APs for our family since in addition to the 4 night stay with the cruise, we will probably have an additional 2 weeks at Disney in the next year. When I inquired about having the cost of tickets deducted from the price of the package, I was told I would most likely get a $100 on ship credit. Well this didn't seem like much.

Then I began to think that perhaps it would be less expensive to book the 4 night land and 3 night cruise separately. Has anyone else done this? Do you think it works out to be significantly less expensive? Or is it just more trouble?

Thanks so much for your help!!!

I originally had my vacation booked together. My travel agent at DU checked the prices of booking it seperatly and it is a little cheaper. We had originally 4 land/3 sea for 3085 with Discovery Magic and trip insurance at the CBR with category 8 room on the ship 12/1/02 - 12/8/02. Since CBR is closing for rehab possible during that time and I've been bugging the TA to death about the cost and my DH having a cow when he knew how much it was going to be after I added the Discovery Magic plan. She offered to check the prices seperatly. So then I asked her since she was checking all that to check the prices at the Wilderness Lodge woods view room and a category 7 room on the ship and no insurance this time. Don't think we'll need it in December and we are rarely sick and we're driving ourselves. The cost comes out to be 3055. So we did save some and got upgraded on lodging and the ship. So I'm very satisfied.

Hope all that makes sense. If you have any questions just send me a message and I'll try to help you.

Dreams is the greatest travel agency out there to me working with Disney. So if you can try to use them.

I would do them separately. You will save a little money and also be able to get exactly what you want.

I originally booked separately and then changed to the package. If you have kids in the 3-11 range, it actually can work out to be cheaper with the package. If they are your 3rd and/or 4th person in your cabin, the price difference between 4 night cruise only and 3 night land/4 night sea was next to nothing for them, saving us all of the money for their park admissions. At least for us it worked out that way.

Thanks to all who answered my post. I think I am going to try to book separately. It should make sense for our family of 3 if we have annual passes.
