We have some $$ from a previous WDW Travel Company reservation that we must use, so we were thinking of spending the first three nights over Thanksgiving weekend next year at a moderate before moving to BCV for seven nights. Of the moderates, which would you choose and why? It's just hubby and I.

I don't have a lot of moderate experience but we always enjoyed Port Orleans French Quarter when we stayed there. We liked having boat access to DTD. Because of that, it never seemed very far "out of the way".

Thanks, Happy Birthday Cat. I was kind of thinking the same, although I've heard good things about Coronado Springs too.

We prefer Port Orleans as well for the theming, boat to DTD, and the sit down restaurant. Coronado Springs didn't thrill us it was so spread out and the food court wasn't too exciting for our tastes.

Previously known as "Dixie Landings" - POR has always been my favorite of the moderates because of its peaceful and beautiful park-like settings (especially in the Magnolia bend section). After a day in the park, it is simply wonderful to stroll back to your room through waterfountains and gardens.

I have been to all of them (although have not stayed in each) and if I were to choose, I would go back to POR. That said, if you are a big fan of Animal Kingdom and Blizzard Beach, Coronado Springs cannot be beat for location. CS is also very nicely themed. So, if you are not partial to the beauty of a southern plantation (POR), CS is a great substitute. Enjoy!

Sounds like POR might win out on this one. CSR looks really nice, but since we live in Dallas, we get quite a bit of the Southwestern theming around here.

We have never stayed at a moderate but our neighbors always do them (we are trying to convince them to join DVC)! They hated CB and said they will never stay there again. They stayed in CSR and liked the pool but not the Southwest themeing. They claimed they felt like they were in Arizona instead of Florida. Their favorites are the POR, especially the French Quarter becasue it's smaller and the main pool is great. I know this is second hand info so take it for what it's worth. www.allearsnet.com has many photos of all of the moderates. Have a great trip! :flower:

DH and I are spending the night before the Members Cruise at POR, that's the one I would pick!

Another vote for POR!!! Admittedly it's the only one I've stayed at, but it was also the only one I WANTED to stay at when I was planning the trip!

Lovely place, especially the mansions. Great foodcourt and of course, the boat ride to DTD. It's also a different area to stay in, seeing as you're going to be moving on to an Epcot resort.

Coronado it is our favourite modrate. It is very large and very beautiful the theme of the resort is second to none. We stayed at Dixie in 98 and didn't like it at all the grounds were nice but the resort itself was less than stellar.

POR again!!! Although I have not seen anyone mention previously the Alligator Bayou section - part of the former Dixie Landings - it is so quiet and private. We have stayed in the French Quarter (also loved the pool) the Magnolia Bend section and the Alligator Bayou and our favorite is still the Bayou. Very unique Disney theming. The pool at what was Dixie Landings is also very nice and we liked the food court - lots of choices and large amount of seating.

Good luck with your choice and enjoy!

I have never stayed at POR but I really enjoy the Caribbean Beach. I have stayed there a few times and enjoyed it very much. Also stayed at Coronado, liked the pool wasn't wacky on the food court.

You guys are the greatest! I went ahead and booked Thanksgiving night and the following two at POR. I requested the Alligator Bayou based on your excellent reviews. We swore we wouldn't stay at multi resorts again and instead use our points exclusively, but I have this $$ that must be used, and POR sounds like a nice place to visit anyway!

I'd definitely choose one of the PO resorts. We may forgo DVC one of our upcoming trips just to stay there. We haven't yet but have heard many wonderful things about these beautiful and spacious resorts.

GOOD LUCK with your decision!

We chose POR for my extravagant birthday trip, had a corner king bed room in Alligator Bayou. I still have to stay at the mansions some time. I like the pool and hot tub at POR better than the pool at POFQ.

We did an especially romantic carriage ride with Becky and Ike. Just a thought...

We really like POFQ....OK, so no sit down resaurants, but we've never really used a sitdown at the resort anyway (excecpt Boardwalk stays). We really like the small size, the themeing and the short(er) walk to the bus stop than there seems to be at POR.
