My name is Kristina and my fiance's name is Alan.

I'm looking forward to planning a Disney wedding and honeymoon!! Alan proposed on May 1st!! Its been a long 14 months for myself (I lost my first husband and 2 year old daughter to a drunk driver Jan of 2008). Alan has been by my side through everything that I have been through. We have been to Disney 3 times and went on a Disney cruise this past March. We were actually on the cruise when we first started talking about a Disney wedding. Well now that I have the engagement ring on my finger it is time to start planning!

I've read over a few of the posts. The one post about where people chose to have their ceremony and why helped me a lot and I now sort of know what I want and what I don't want. We are going to have a small wedding. If everyone makes it (which I'm sure won't happen) we'll have a total of 40 people. Any advice would greatly help and be appreciated!

Kristina

Ooo, so sorry for your sad loss. You will receive more help on here than you will be able to digest. Get that notebook out and start taking notes:)

Thank you all for the warm welcomes. I'm definately looking forward to this. My first husband was active duty in the Navy so there was no planning of an actual wedding. We had enough time to make a quick trip to the court house and two days later he was out to sea for a week.

I told Alan after Josh died and we were still just dating that one of my dreams was to one day have a wedding with my family there. He said he'd help to make that dream come true and I love him that much more for that.

Congratulations and I'm so happy for you. My 26 year old daughter lost her husband last month after a year of medical problems. My wish for her is to one day have the happiness that you must be feeling now. So much sorrow to deal with now, we can't imagine that happening one day, but you're proof that it CAN happen. God be with you and happy planning!!!

PS My nephew proposed to his beloved at Disney World over spring break ... they are also considering a Disney wedding! Sure hope they decide to get hitched at the Happiest Place on Earth!!!

Thank you hon..

Actually its quite a funny story how we came to the decision for a Disney wedding. We were on the 4 day Bahamas cruise back in March and we attended the DVC presentation. There we met a CM and we were talking with her and she told us that her son was getting married on the cruise next year. That got us thinking and we were like "Hey that would be cool". Well after looking more into it and realizing some of our family wouldn't like going on a cruise we decided to change it and just do it at Disney World then still go on the cruise for our honeymoon.

Going to Disney for me now is bittersweet. My late husband returned from a 7 month deployment in November of 2007. My mom had bought us plane tickets and reserved a hotel for us in FL so we could go to Disney. This was Josh's first time ever going so he was excited the whole time he was deployed. Unfortunately that was the first and last vacation I was ever able to go on with him. He and Maddie passed away 2 short months later when a drunk driver hit our car head on.

:welcome: to the DIS!

Wow - I have tears in my eyes reading your post. You have really been through a lot. Congratulations on your upcoming wedding - you deserve only the best in life. Glad your joining our happy DIS family!

You're a very brave lady. Being back will be bittersweet but will also give you a chance to remember the good times you had with Josh and my guess is he'd want you to start making new memories with Disney Magic.
I'm sure the first trip back to our favorite vacation spot will be bittersweet for my daughter also. She and her husband spent their honeymoon at WDW and were back a couple of years later the week following Thanksgiving. He felt "pushed" into Disney World ... wasn't his idea of a vacation! BUT ... DD didn't give him a choice and he actually admitted he enjoyed himself! DH and I made the trip in Sept. '08 (I actually left Houston the day before Hurricane Ike arrived; DH had to stay behind as part of emergency management in our county, arriving in Florida the following Monday). We just HAD to make the trip with oldest daughter and her family ... first trip for the youngest granddaughter. My point is ... son-in-law was hospitalized at the time and I sent a picture to his phone with Eeyore and his 2 nieces. DD said that picture brought a smile to his face ... the first one in 4 days!
There will be more smiles for you too. They've already started with that engagement ring and after your wedding you can begin making new memories in your new life. Keep us posted and enjoy every minute!

Thank you for those kind words hon. They made me tear up. I had talked to Alan about the things that I invisioned for this wedding. We make Josh and Maddie part of our every day lives as much as we can. We have pictures of them throughout the house. We have Josh's flag case on display on our fire place mantel. The letter I recieved from President Bush after Josh passed is framed and on the wall of our entry way. When you walk into our house it is the first thing you see.

Having these things around the house still makes it feel like they are present. So it was only natural that I somehow incorporate them into our Disney wedding. I told Alan that after we light the unity candle I want to light a candle for each of them to let them know that we aren't going to forget them and they still are going to be a part of our every day lives.

I like the candle idea! Have you decided on a date yet?

We are shooting for Feb 13, 2010 only because we had already booked the 7 day Disney cruise to the Western Carribbean. We figured we might as well get married before hand, hang out at the parks with friends and family days after the wedding. Then drive down to Cape Canaveral and get on the ship and enjoy our Disneymoon :).

That gives you less than a year to wait!!! Sounds like fun!

Yes, I'm excited. I booked our stay at Saratoga Springs this July. We are going down to spend time with my friend Bridget and also she is one of my bridesmaids. She is going with us to the wedding coordinator to help me get things coordinated. Then my friend Erica is flying in from Virginia. We're going to make a fun trip out of it. Erica has never been to Disney.

Sounds like lots of fun! I had the pleasure of "introducing" my best friend to WDW in 2005. She'd lived in Florida before moving to Texas but had never taken the time to experience the Magic Kingdom, thinking it was for "kids only". Eldest DD had booked our vacation in '05 for Sept., not realizing DH would be unable to make the beginning of the trip. He's a county official and the final budget hearing for the upcoming year was scheduled for the 2nd day of our Disney trip! So we promptly changed plans, leaving him at home until he could finish his "official" business(!) and inviting best friend and youngest DD to join us at the Wilderness Lodge for 3 days. Couldn't waste all that space in that hotel room on just me! That was the BEST vacation EVER! Had it all ... 1st trip for then 3 year old granddaughter, 3 days with my "bestest friend in the whole world" and BOTH my girls and the vacation ended with my husband! We've "hooked" Carolyn and we're looking forward to spending time at WDW again ... just "the girls" ... when our lives settle down a little and we're able to save the cost of the trip. You should have a blast!
Hope your Mother's Day was a good one; we spent the day at the Rice Owls baseball game. My Godson is one of 2 seniors on the team. Today was Senior Day, which meant his Mom, my cousin, got to throw out the first pitch of the game! A very special Mother's Day for our family!

It sounds like you had an awesome mother's day. I didn't do much on Mother's Day. I still have a hard time on that day considering my little girl is in heaven now. I actually slept most of the day. I got up and got my mom's present wrapped, went over gave them to her, and then we took her to dinner at Olive Garden. I was very surprised we only had a 20 minute wait.. usually its more like 45 minutes to an hour.

We are flying out to Las Vegas later on today. I call it my Mother's Day present to myself. I've taken two weeks off of school (go to University of Phoenix Online) and am needing a break. I took a statistics class that was a nightmare. Still waiting for that grade to come in. I hope it doesn't kill my GPA to much, lol.

I am totally looking forward to this trip. I can't wait to spend some time with my friends and for my friends to get to know Alan. Bridget has met him before and we all had a blast at Universal Studios over Mardi Gras celebration. Erica will get to meet him for the first time. We have plans to go to Magic Kingdom for one day so that Alan and I are able to get our pictures taken in front of Magic Kingdom. I figured since we were having a wedding at Disney we might as well take a picture of us at Disney for our engagement annoucements. :)

Sounds like you made the best of the day. As tired as I've been today I probably should have slept a little longer yesterday! To much of that hot Texas sunshine!
Hope you have a good trip to Vegas. My daughters say they're going to take me there one of these days. Five year old granddaughter has been but MiMi hasn't!
Perfect idea for engagment annoucements! My favorite photo spot of the castle is the garden area to the right - on the Tomorrowland side. Have some super pictures from that side from the Halloween Party. Have fun!
