OH how awesome I like you already! BOOMER!

Thanks! I like it here already!!! So what should I not miss on my trip? I've only ever been to Magic Kingdom and its been a few years.

Hey everyone! I live in Shawnee. I didn't realize that there were that many from OK here either.

I'll be heading to WDW in June, so I guess I'll beat you all by a month.

Did any of you happen to be at a OCCC tonight for a kids HSM show? Just wondering b/c someone there mentioned that she had my same Mickey purse (from WDW) and that she loved it. I should've asked her if she was a Disser, but I didn't.

BTW- there's a thread on the Community Board from someone who will be in OKC for a weekend in July & is looking for stuff to do. I couldn't think of anything that hadn't already been mentioned, but you all may have some good ideas for her.

I have been dissing since 2001. There are actually quiet a few more that I have ran across from time to time but we have never actually posted back and forth to each other. It is like a post is made asking who from Oklahoma is around, they reply and then that is it. You guys are the first bunch I have found that have actually stuck around and visited for a while.

My mom, dad, sister and niece live in Shawnee too.

I don't know if I can help with things to do around here. Is there anything? :rotfl:

Pozey is always around he lives here in BA like me.

I've stayed at the Wilderness Lodge 8 or 9 times it's our home away from home the concierge staff there is SO SO awesome!! It's truly why we kept going back there. They know my DS as he hasn't known a year of his life without disney and really impressed me with keeping up with his interests as the years have gone by. We are starting to branch over into the mgm/epcot side doing the YC/BC and BW scene since he's almost 10 and wants to spend more and more time in those parks.

I really recommend trying to be the flag family it's one of the best views in all of Disney!! We got it one of the years we just happened to have 11 of my family members there on a trip. They were only supposed to allow 6 but my good buddies at concierge took care of us!

Here is my DS doing the honors!

we are trying to decide on the disney cruise or parks this year either way we usually go in May and take our Son out of school too. We fly because well, we just don't want to waste a minute of our park time!! LOL we are a bit fanatical tho.

Great pic of DS doing the honors. Someone on the DVC VWL thread just posted pics from up there and they were amazing. As many times as we have been we have never even tried to do it. After seeing those pics I will be trying this trip.

We would love to go in the semi off season but we just don't seem to be able to take a trip for less than 2 weeks. Unfortunately the school has a problem with me taking the kids out of school for that long! If we were to go for just a week though there is no way I would drive.

If you do the cruise coe back and let me know about it. We are thinking about doing it next year.

Well welcome to you too. Where are you living now?

Goodness the list of what not to miss is huge. The best advice I can give is to do all that you can while still having a great time and leave the rest for another trip.

Our must do's:

MK - all the mountians, Pirates, Buzz, Peter Pan, Mickey's Philharmagic, the night time parades & fireworks, daytime parade if you have never done it, the rest of Fantasy Land if you have little ones (make sure you do Fantasy Land first if you do). For a nice way to relax a little while hop on the TTA in Tomorrow Land and take a spin or two around. Also the Tiki Room in Adventure Land has a cute little show and is another way to sit and relax. Our favorite CS here is Cosmic Rays.

MGM - RNRC, TOT, Beauty & the Beast, Indiana Jones Stunt Show, Lights Motor Action Stunt Show, Little Mermaid, the parade & Fantasmic. If you are going to do Fantasmic try to book an dinner package, we prefer to dine at Hollywood & Vine (this will save you a seat and you won't have to spend over an hour standing in line waiting to get a seat).

EPCOT - Soarin, Turtle Talk with Crush, Mission Space, Test Track and Illuminations. The Innoventions places are pretty neat too, as are the different countries.

AK - Expedition Everest (multiple times if Ally has her way - and she usually does), Kilamanjaro Safari, Kali River Rapids, Dinosaur, and my least favorite ride - Primevil Hurl, I mean Whirl. The Festival of the Lion King is not to be missed, you won't find a better show anywhere. I have heard the the new Nemo show is also very good but the wait was too long last summer and out in the sun so we haven't done it yet. AK also has my favorite parade.

My favorite CS here is Flame Tree Barbeque but the kids favorite is Pizzafari.

Our favorite water park is Blizzard Beach.

Favorite places to eat:
Chef Mickey's, Crystal Palace, Ohana for breakfast, Donald's @ AK for breakfast, Le Cellier, Whispering Canyon Cafe and Beaches & Cream.

Have fun!

Hi Star! Yeah, we're quite fanatical too! My husband wants to move down there, but then I always ask how would we get to OU games?????? Quite a dilemma! (I'm in BA, too!)

I hope we can be the flag family! DH is under strict orders to ask as soon as we check in, although I may do it because I can put more emotion into it and say how it's our first stay at WL, and how we've always wanted to stay there, and we are so excited, yada, yada, yada. That might work better, but since we're arriving over MLK weekend, I just hope they don't already have families for the whole week. Of course, if we were to win a night at the castle, that would certainly make up for it!:rolleyes1 By the way, I love the picture of your son! He is a cutie! We were there about the same time that year!

Loribell, my DD is in 5th grade, and we have taken her out of school for a Disney vacation every year since Kindergarten. They have never cared, and her teachers have been great about sending her work with us so she isn't behind when we return. We have been very fortunate, but I think this is the last year we will be able to do it, since she will go to 6th grade next year, and I don't think they are as lenient.

This is great finding a bunch of OU/Disney fans here on the DIS! We need to keep this group going!

Wouldn't it be nice to have a board that just consists of 50 stickys? Then, each state could have their own! It would be handy to meet people who live around you. Plus, if you were visiting a state, you would know where to go to ask for help.

This sounds like a good plan to me. :thumbsup2

We're going to be driving down there in May. We drove to Yellowstone last summer, so Disney is actually a little closer. The kids suprised me and did really well with the drive, I just hope this year is as easy.

We're also taking DD out of school to go. She'll miss the last 3 days, but she's in pre-k so I don't feel too bad.

It won't really matter what story you tell. As long as there is an opening while you are there and you ask first they will let your family do it.

How long do you take your dd out of school for? We actually have more trouble with the elementary school than we do with the high school. Of course my dd in elementary always has more work to do than my ds in high school too. Makes no sense to me.

I agree, this is a great grou we have got going here. We need to keep it going.

Surely they won't have a problem with that.;)

Hello fellow Sooners! I agree it is GREAT to see all these Sooners on the DIS board!! I post on the OU board all the time..but I have an alterego called okiediva! ANYWHO...if anyone will be there from July 21st thru the 26th we should meet up! I think OU1247 and I will plan something..a big BOOOOOOOOOMER SOOOOOOOOOOOOONER at the castle or something!!

When did he get contacts? I almost didn't recognize him.
3 years ago this month! *sigh* time really flies!

If you do the cruise come back and let me know about it. We are thinking about doing it next year.

I've done the cruise before so lemme know if you have specific questions, if I can answer them I will!

Yeah same problem with the OU games and well the school systems in that area (orlando) are very lacking and then there is that whole hurricane thing  I like looking forward to going to Florida but I also look forward to coming back to the nicest people on earth.

Good luck being the flag family we tried for several years even with the "concierge touch" truth is it's first come first serve and I applaud Disney for that, I'd hate to find out someone bought the chance...

Awesome about BA my son is in the 4th grade and we've done the same he's in the gifted program makes straight a's so I don't feel a bit bad about yanking him for fun stuff, I feel he's earned it. When we went skiing last month I yanked him but because of the ice storm he only missed one day that the other kids didn't miss so we got lucky!!

OTHER STAR for you
MK Must do's -all the mountains, learn the cheats for Buzz so you can smoke your kids and they get way impressed!, Mickey's philharmagic, pirates, tink flying before the fireworks, the race cars if they are tall enough to drive their own they will find this very cool, I do love the train and the haunted mansion
I don't care for the food at MK for the most part I usually do a character breakfast @ 1900 park fair that day GF the only place you can see Marry Poppins and Bert dressed in their water color clothes. Alice and the Mad hatter are there as well as Pooh and his friends and the food is GF good! Then we snack walk ups after that....head to Ohanna's for dinner.

MGM - RNRC, TOT, Indiana Jones Stunt Show, Lights Motor Action Stunt Show, star tours the parade & Fantasmic the high school musical show if your kids are into that. If you are going to do Fantasmic try to book an dinner package, we prefer to dine Brown Derby. ALSO love the SCI FI

EPCOT - Soarin, Turtle Talk with Crush, Mission Space, Test Track and Illuminations honey I shrunk the audience and the ellen ride. My fave place to eat @ epcot is most of the countries and I do love to get a nestle toll house cookie when we leave soarin

AK - Expedition Everest, Kilimanjaro Safari, Kali River Rapids, Dinosaur, The Festival of the Lion King. We usually grab a bit to eat at the diner outside of the dinosaur ride can't remember the name...

Our favorite water park is Blizzard Beach but we do usually do both because ds loves to swim with the sharks and the roller coaster water slides @ TL!

Favorite places to eat:
The Irish pub, wolf gang's and Fulton's (down town disney) 1900 park fair breakfast , ohana, England Italy, Paris, Germany, Mexico & Japan (world showcase) ESPN , cape may cafe, the ice cream place @ BC where you can order the kitchen sink (trust me on this one)

restaurants I hate: there is only two and it's at Animal Kingdom it was just gross and Norway.

MCSooner, I concur!

We usually take her out for 5 or 6 days (She goes to Union.), though I try to plan our trips around a scheduled day off, so she doesn't miss too many days. This time, it's MLK day, but we've also done Pres. day. And, of course, since we go in the winter, a couple of times there have been snow days while we are gone, so she actually comes back ahead! That happened last year when we went the week after Thanksgiving.

In exatly one week from right now, we'll be checking in to WL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I concur as well, McSooner!

Forgot to add one thing..................................

I've done the cruise before so lemme know if you have specific questions, if I can answer them I will!

Thanks for the offer. Do you think a 16/17 yo boy would enjoy the DCL? How about a 9/10 yo girl? What part of the ship is best to stay at?

We can't wait to move away, but that is more for allergy/asthma reasons. All of us suffer terribly from allergies & ds has terrible asthma but we are all fine while we are in that area. As soon as we get back home the problems start back up. Will probably do so in the next year or so. But we aren't moving to Florida, don't want to deal with the huricanes. We are thinking we will probably end up somewhere in Southern Tennessee or Northern Georgia. Maybe I will be able to buy some regional packages to be able to get our games. I know that my dad has bought something before while he was traveling so he could watch the games. I'll just keep my fingers crossed.

Looks like your must do's and our's are pretty much the same with the exception of the food choices. But Beaches & Cream is sooooooo good! We have not done the kitchen sink yet, but always plan to do it. Somehow we always end up eating to much and don't feel like we should even attempt it. I need to plan to go there this summer and not eat a meal, just order the kitchen sink! What restaurant do you hate at AK? We have eaten at the Princess breakfast in Norway and I have to say it isn't the best in the world.

We took the kids to Seaworld in San Antonio last summer. Apparently DD heard someone say something about Texas and turned around and told them about Texas and how it sucks. :lmao:
