Hello from OK!

Hi Todd!

Speaking of crazy water everywhere? Anyone is Central OK been past Riverwind/McDonald's on Hwy 9? I passed by on my way to Lawton yesterday, and McDonald's and that gas station are surrounded by water. It's like McDonald's island.

I have not driven past it since the rain was over but it was no fun driving through there Wednesday when that downpour was going on! I've been going to Norman 3 times a week to take ds to physical therapy, baseball injury.

Thanks for the replies.... I think we are going to be going thru Nashville.

We will be there from May 12-16. This will be our first trip of many I am sure.
We are staying off site. My wife and two daughters ( 5 years and 10 months) and myself.

Any other okies going to be there at that time??

Thanks for the warm welcome to the boards.....:worship:

That was how we used to go because AAA recommended it. Last summer my sister, mom, dad and niece met us in Orlando. They went through Texas to get to Orlando. They came back the way I said and much preferred it. We have not driven through Texas to get there for years.

We stopped going through Louisiana after our van got broken in to several years ago.

We have never had problems with the traffic in Atlanta. There is usually a lot of construction south of Atlanta but we always ran in to that on I-10 past Pensacola. It just seems to take us less time with the way we go now.

This is really good to know...I'm going to have to take this other way your talking about next time.

Same here...Norman's in school til the 22nd. We could have gotten all kinds of great deals if they'd gotten out a week earlier!! :headache:

In case you didn't know AAA will also do you a trip ticket with the route you prefer. Just tell them the way you want to go.

Also if I go to google maps and put in Tuttle to Orlando it gives me the directions to go through Louisiana and across I-10. I just tell it tuttle to nashville to orlando to get it to do it the other way.

WELCOME!!! i'm new to Disboards too and can't seem to stay away...enjoy WDW i KNOW you will

Okay...I didn't know this. So, when I ask for the trip tick ask for it to go a different route then thru Texas.

Hi OSUTROOPER, yes you have some okies going with you. We will be there representing Midwest City May 11-16. :woohoo:

I've been lurking since I returned from my Spring Break Trip to Orlando. Wow..what an experience. We enjoyed 9 days in the area - 4 days at Universal/Islands of Adventure and 4 days at Disney. So I still haven't developed all of my pictures, I've barely unpacked our luggage, and certainly haven't started any scrapbooking and guess what happens....I find that I MUST attend a meeting ...in ORLANDO..... in May:cool1:

Come on now...can things get much better than 2 trips to Disney in 3 Months??? :confused3 YES IT CAN, my kids cannot miss any more school days (says their father:lmao: ) and my husband isn't up to the crowds  so that can only mean: I get to spend 3 evenings in May, during the week, at Disney parks by MYSELF  :woohoo: :yay:

Now for those driving from OKC area, I personally do not like driving i-40 to Nashville :snail: ...boring and long...I like to break up the trip in at least 3 hour increments for drinks breaks, etc. and I like a change in scenery. Makes you feel like you're really going somewhere different. My family's route to Orlando from Norman has been I-35 south to Dallas, I-20 through LA to Jackson, MS, HWY 49 to Hattiesburg, HW 98 to Mobile, I-10 to Lake City, FL to 75 S to Orlando. I have found that while interstate travel may seem quicker, its not necesarily true. Also a word of advice: Unless you like traffic and accident delays...AVOID ATLANTA AT ALL COSTS. I'm not a city person and always thought the commute from Norman to OKC was horrible....until I moved to Charlotte and traveled through Atlanta! I know some of you may say, well that's only through rush hour....not true, I've tried weekends, weekdays, mornings beginning at 5 am and evenings around 9 and 10 pm....too many people for this country girl!!:headache:

New countdown (sorry, don't know how to do a ticker yet) 28 days to Disney!!!

Congrats on the new trip, especially the solo part.

I do have to say though that we have been through Atlanta on different days of the week & at different times and have never experienced traffic as bad as we have driving through Dallas (or should I say the loop around Dallas). It is also the way my parents & sister drove back last summer, they drove out the way you suggested. They all agreed they liked driving out I-40 much better.

We used to drive that route until we left from Shawnee a couple of years ago. I do not like the Jackson to Hattiesbug to Mobile part of the route. To me it is more like Hwy 9 or 177 except that it is 4 lane devided. I just don't like that cars pull on from anywhere or that there are constant towns slowing you down. Also the last time I drove it we were in a heavy rain and it was not a fun drive. I would have felt much safer on the interstate.

By the way, did you do a trip report????? If you want a ticker click on the one in my signature. It will take you to a page where you just go through 3 simple steps and you can make your own.

Welcome aboard; lived in Tulsa, Stillwater, Edmond, Moore, and now Atlanta. "Go Cowboys"!:thumbsup2

Thanks Loribell..I'm excited Again!!

Very true on your part, and when I've been the only adult traveling/driving, I too tend to stick to the interstate. However, when I'm traveling with other adults and not in a hurry, I like the alternative routes. I enjoyed the trip from Jackson to Mobile with perfect weather and sleeping children. I truly enjoyed that part of the drive! Driving in the rain around here is quite a nightmare and Im not sure why. Any meteorologists out there? Maybe it has to do with all the humidity in the air or all the trees or something.

I think it has something to do with the pavement. It just kinda all blends in. If I am on a road that is asphalt I don't have as much problem seeing.

Anyone watch OKC on the Today Show today?

No. What were we on for? Murrah Bombing anniversary?

No, Al Roker is doing his Lend A Hand campaign again and chose the Oklahoma City Indian Clinic. It was amazing. They received more than $200,000 in supplies...and a Jeep!! The videos are on the Today Show site. My uncle works with the OCIC Healing Gallery, so he told us beforehand, but it was a secret location so all of central Oklahoma wouldn't show up. It was really great!!
