Campground is ok but sites have no privacy. I was pleased to learn we get extra park hours! Train is loud no matter where your site is but a/c drowns it out. Most pleased to see security out and handling line jumpers!

Thanks for the info! I'm writing everything down for our trip there next year, lol! I didn't know about the extra park hours...that's great!

That's what we had heard about the Hershey campground too - we are going to give it a go this fall though. Like you said, with A/C all is good. :) Have a ball!

The first night as long as you buy park tickets you get a few hours and then you can go an hour early in the morning. We rode 5 coasters before lunch today.

Glad you are enjoying yourself and having A/C definitely helps in drowning out the train. I wonder if the extra park hours are new, I don't remember it being offered when we were there 3 years ago.

Oh wait you are talking about the preview thing right? Not for staying at the campground?

Not much seems to have changed at the CC since we were there 20 years ago. It was open (no privacy) then, and of course the train. It was a sorry excuse for Hershey to have their name on - sites VERY close together.:sad2: The only reason we stayed then was because it was super convenient to the park - the absolute only "pro" going for it. Even had more noise from an industrial business on the other side. (A FAR cry from FW;)) They flooded not long ago from the river there, and beware certain areas, if you have some heavy downpours (some sites flood now also). Sorry about the tirade - just brings back bad memories :sad2:. I am glad y'all are having a good time on your "maiden voyage" :wave2:

Are you in the Woodland section? Sites there are close. We go to Highmeadow every year for the RV show in September. We started requesting a site down along the creek in the Meadowview Section. They are grassy and have more room. Never had any trouble with Bullfrog creek, normally there is no water in it but our reservations got cancelled last year due to flooding. It is nice to ride the bus to the park and Chocolate World.

There are wonderful restaurants there. Hershey outlets too!

Enjoy!

We are right along Bullfrog- it didn't have any water in it until it rained last night. Overall it's not horrible but I'm glad we can only get neighbors on one side. Wish they had later pool hours too.

preview at Hershey is usually for 3 hours before closing. if park closing at 8pm, you can get in at 5pm for example.

Monday the park closed at 10 and we could go in at 6:30. It was pretty crowded so we didn't get to much but it helped us map out our plan for our full park days. :)

I know there were several that posted about trips planned to Hershey, so I thought I'd share a few pictures just to give an idea of what our site was like. We were in site 110 in the Shady Rest loop.

Here's a link to the campground map to give some more perspective.

Pretty much any site along the top of the map is going to have to deal with the train, which runs day and night. Anyone along the bottom is going to have to deal with what I think was a quarry that wasn't noisy at night but got going pretty early in the morning. The noise wasn't horrible, but we did have the a/c to drown it out. With a tent or anything that doesn't have some kind of white noise, I imagine it could get quite loud.

The extra park hours were a nice perk that made it worth staying there, along with the shuttle. If you aren't worried about those things but you are worried about the train/noise - and you don't need to take advantage of the whopping $2.50 per ticket discount we got - you might want to stay someplace else. :)

Thanks for the photos and campground info! We will have AC and fans when we go, so hopefully the noise won't be too terrible. We have a train near us at home, anyway, so hopefully we're somewhat immune to it :rotfl2:. Did the shuttle work out ok for you? We will be relying on it totally, as we'll be driving a Class C with no separate vehicle to get around. Does it run pretty frequently and on a set schedule?

Thanks for the photos. I hope you had an enjoyable trip.:)

We had no problems with the buses and only had to wait for a 2nd bus one time - when everyone was leaving the park because it was starting to rain with thunder and lightning. And then they had a security guy there boarding people on the bus so it was very orderly!

The buses came to the campground about every half hour. Some times we were the only ones on the bus!

That sounds great. Thanks for sharing your experiences...I'm really looking forward to our trip there next year!

Hi everyone,

I was also at Hershey Highmeadow campground for the fourth of July week (four nights/five days). I did a tent but some of my family members did the cabins. I had a ball. I will post the pics and a brief description of my trip. I am a bit new to this section of the boards and did not know we could post about other camp sites.

In defense of Hershey Highmeadow - we stayed one weekend back in May to see what it's like. We are close to Hershey and have season passes to the park. A 20% coupon that came with our passes made it an easy decision.

Basically the terrible flooding last year in the central PA area forced Hershey to nearly rebuild the campground. We drove through it back in March when the office/store was under reconstruction, as well as several of the bathrooms. From appearances much of the playground equipment is also new, as are quite a few cabins. The new office looks more like a ski lodge. Our site was near a branch of the creek that flooded, and the sod there was new as were the picnic tables. The electric service looked new, and new gravel had been put down at each site.

Whatever shape it was in 20 years ago probably doesn't have much bearing now. I went for a jog around the entire property, and did notice a few sites that were FAR from level. Had we been assigned one of them I would have complained. Saw a Class C with the front wheels way up on blocks to get level. Not for me. Don't think I've ever seen sites that uneven, anywhere. Other than that we enjoyed it, but our primary purpose was to visit the park. The trains didn't bother us much, and we were pretty close. Our kids enjoyed the playground equipment. The pools weren't yet open but looked great.
