Hi everyone, not been about for a bit - no ticker makes me so sad :sad2:

DH said last night that we should think about what time of year we should plan for 2012 (i've been going on and on and on and on.......about 20th anniversary and how we cannot miss it.....he finally got the hint yesterday ;)) so I'd like your opinions please:

We've been in summer many times - July last year was wonderful, but we did miss a lot of stuff because it was soooo busy. We've been for Halloween which we loved, and felt like we had the parks to ourselves it was so quiet :). I fancy Christmas, but DH hates the cold, and even moaned in early October

We also need to stick to school holidays - eldest is in 6th year studying for highers, so I won't take them out of school (although he might not want to come this time :sad1:)

So - my first thought is the first week in April. What's the weather generally like and crowds? Is it school holidays for everyone the first week in April? Also, would we be too early for the Anniversary celebrations?

Your thoughts please :goodvibes

Hello! :goodvibes I've just returned myself, I've been quiet on the boards for a while as I was sad about having no trip to plan but now that xmas is over I've started obsessing about our June trip.
Glad to hear your DH is up for a 20th anniversary trip. The good news is it seems that the celebrations start right from the 1st of April, according to dlpSteve's great blog here http://dedicatedtodlp.com/2011/12/2...-magic-moments-festival-and-20th-anniversary/

So you could go right at the start of April! I was about to suggest early September as it is so much quieter, since your son will be out of school by then, then remembered your younger two will still be at school so that doesnt help.

Thanks for that :thumbsup2

Anything after the summer is a no no - DS may be going to Uni so won't have the same holidays as my other two.

I've just had a thought though - there is a long weekend at the beginning of May which co-incides with DS 1's 18th birthday and DD's 15th birthday - so that might be an option. All depends if DS really wants to spend his 18th with us instead of his friends ;)

We had our very first visit when DS had his 4th birthday and DD had her 1st - so would be nice to be back there again for that :goodvibes

We are going the first week of June because there is the extra bank holiday - 4th and 5th are bank holidays for the jubilee or something. With me working for a bank now it means I'm maximising use of my holidays!
Are the schools off those two days too?

That sounds like a really nice idea to be there for their birthdays though - we will be there for my dad's 64th birthday on 8th June :rotfl: he's getting a cake whether he likes it or not.

Before seriously considering April, it might be an idea to check out when all schools across France, the UK and Europe are taking their Easter holidays. Easter is celebrated all over Europe so it will definitely be busy on Easter weekend.

What time do your children have off school in May? We are in England and May school holidays have moved to the beginning of June for 2012, which would be a great time to visit DLP as there don't appear to be any other countries with school holidays at that time.

We have a short holiday at the beginning of May and then one at the end, so that might work for us. Ds doesn't seem too keen on going for his birthday, or maybe not at all :scared1: but I don't want to leave him during exams which are in May. Need to check his dates I think, before we decide.

If he definitely does not want to come, then we might wait until October again.....decisions, decisions.....

DS exams will be finished before end of May so it looks like Thursday 31 May is in the running. It's a good price - it shoots up the following week.

So having never been on a Saturday before, am I mad?

Thursday 31 May - Sunday 3 June. We might fly out on the Wednesday and stay over at the Kyriad first - then have full day Thurs, Fri, before the expected crowds on Saturday. If it will be really busy, then we'll plan a day away somewhere - then we'll have a full day on Sunday before flying home in the evening.

This is all new to me - not flown to dlp since 1998 due to really bad flight times - but for some reason a Sunday coming home is in the evening, instead of slap bang in the middle of the day - so is looking promising.

Now just need to get my head around DS saying he 'might not bother this time' - the brainwashing had worked really well up until now......

Thanks for your help folks - you've got me thinking.......;)

If you've been to DLP and managed fine in the high summer season, you'll manage fine on weekend days. Due to flight times now, we usually arrive at CDG at around 9am on saturday mornings. if its really busy, we do the shows, have late breakfast at the DLH etc, and do rides with fastpass on the weekend days we are visiting the parks. then we get in the bulk of our rides on our weekday days.
