Hi

My family and I are going to Disneyland for 5 days. We will be there from May 17th until the 21st.

What kind of crowds should we expect during this time of year?

Will we be able to get to tom sawyer island since the mark twain river boat will be closed?

Will I be tired and broke by the time this trip is over? ha ha:goodvibes

It's an ok time to go, you'll notice a little busier on Friday and much more on that evening. If you look at the schedule at www.disneyland.com if one day has longer hours than the other it will be busier and also if some do not have fireworks and some do same rule.

The Mark Twain doesn't go to Tom's Island it goes around it. You take rafts over. Right now it is delayed, you'll just need to wait and see.

I have never felt tired while at a Diney Resort. I realize about an hour after leaving that I've been on my feet almost all the awake time and only slept 5 or 6 hours each night. Yet I have no probem waking up while there wether it is 2 or 9 days.

I think it will be great because you will get to see the Remember fireworks before you go away for summer.

You are awesome never getting tired you must really love Disneyland. That's good.

You said right now the rafts are delayed what does this mean?

How is the Remember fireworks show compared to the others? I have seen the haloween show and thought it was great.

I agree with not ever feeling tired there...I could go until 3am if they'd let me :D We got about 6 hrs of sleep/night, and I'd wake up ready to go the next morning very easily.

That said, my feet/legs definitely ended up hurting this trip from all the walking. I highly recommend doing some extended walking at home before your trip, or bringing a substantial supply of Ibproufen...it helps ;)

Definitely make seeing RDCT a priority...this is one amazing fireworks show--not to be missed! Even if it looks to show more than once on your trip, try to see it as early as possible. DL does sometimes cancel the fireworks if the winds are too high (this almost happened to us last year)--if you wait til the last night they show (on your trip) to see them, and then they get cancelled, you'd end up missing out on a fantastic show!

Honestly, I don't remember..it was March 2009. Winds were at, I think, 15-18mph on April 30th this year (the first night fireworks were on for our trip)...i was afraid they might cancel, but they didn't. THey didn't even give warning announcements that night.

I owe to Disney provoke adrenalin.

The Rivers of America was in rehab. They worked on docks, boats and the island. It's just still ongoing, they didn't make thier intented schedule. I think it was supposed to be finished a week or two ago.

I can only say Remember is the best firework show EVER! Like Angel said, see it early in your trip you may want to watch again, or in a better spot.

We'll be there the same week. :) The rivers have been refilled, and I think everything was on schedule to reopen as early as this weekend, except the Mark Twain. We're going to Medieval Times on Friday night, but hopefuly we'll make it back in time to see the fireworks. Here's hoping for fairly low crowds for us!

I'm glad to hear that the river is filled and back to normal.

Has anyone went recently or have a guess as to what kind of crowds we should expect?

We jsut got back. We arrived Thursday afternoon (April 29th) and left Monday afetrnoon (May 3rd). Thursday afternoon and Friday/Monday during the day were awesome. Not too many crowds at all, walking on rides easily. With how we scheduled things, and planning on doing a lot at night afetr the fireworks, we really walked on most rides (or only waited appx. 15 mins).

Fri night/Sat/Sun were definitely more crowded. Waits for TSMM were 60mins pretty much every time we looked. We only did it Sat. morning at Rope drop - we went straight there, power walking the whole way there - and it was only a 5-10 min wait. Just as a note, TSMM was having problems while we were there. It was down basically all day Friday, and again Monday morning.

The nig rides got crowded...Space/Splash/Peter Pan especially, but many other rides only had 15-20 min. waits. We spent most of Sat. doing Food and Wine festival stuff, so we didn't really have too many issues. Same with Sunday. Just something to make you aware of - if you're going over a weekend, it will be more crowded. So you may want to take that into account when planning what rides to do on non-weekend time.

We had an amazing time at the Festival! Saturday we went to 2 of the free cooking demonstrations - one by the Executive Chef for the Disney Studios and one by Amy Jurist. The Disney chef (I can't remember her name, sorry!) made Ricotta Gnocci with a parmesean based broth. Everyone in teh audience got a tasting sample of it.

Amy Jurist made candied bacon and this inverted baked potato...she laced bacon to make this "cup" in a muffin pan, and then filled it with the potato/sour cream/chives, etc. Both were absolutely delicious!

We showed up for both demonstrations about 15 mins prior to the start and had no problem getting in. But if it's a busier weekend, you may want to get there earlier.

We also did the wine walks for Italy and California. 3 people is the best number, b/c then you can try all wines at each station. DH and I had 2 at each station, sharing tastes...we really enjoyed these! They were about $10/person, but well worth it imo. There was also a beer walk that DH enjoyed a lot. I'm not a huge fan of beer though.

We had lunch one day at the Festival Showplace. DH had (and enjoyed!) the beef sliders. I had the cheddar cheese soup in the bread bowl. YUUUUUUUM. We finished with the Ghiardelli profiterole, which was also quite yummy. These are tapas sized portions, not full meals, but they were very yummy. I really wanted the recipe to teh cheddar cheese soup! (The chef said it was online somewhere but I haven't found it yet).

We finished the festival by going to one signature event (pre-registration required)--Sweet Sunday on May 2nd, with Richard Ruskell. If you watch food network challenge and have seen any of the cake competitions, you've probably watched him compete. There was a breakfast buffet (fresh fruit, assorted pastries, 3 cheese quiche, and sausage) and we were each offered glasses of Iron Horse Fairy Tale Cuvee or Magicale - 2 sparkling wines exclusive to Disney. They were VERY generous with refilling our glasses throughout the 2 hr. event. DH and I probably had 4 or so glasses of Magicale each (14.50/glass in the park restaurants). worth the price of admission itself :D

Chef Ruskell made 3 strawberry based creations for us- berliners, tres leches cake with strawberry topping, and strawberry parfait (served in a push up pop!) We got recipes for all of these, as well as full portions of them for tasting. He walked us through the preparation of all of them, and answered questions along the way as well.

This was probably DH and I's favorite part of the whole trip. The whole experience was just awesome, teh food was delicious, and we got our picture with the Chef after as well!

We have nothing but awesome things to say about the festival. This was a compromise for us, since DL is closer, and we've always wanted to do Epcot's F&W festival....now we REALLY want to go to Epcot!!!

Hope that helps!

Oh, they had wine seminars as well that we wanted to go to - but people were camping out for 2 hrs ahead of time to go to them (tickets don't go on sale til an hour before the event...people would line up an hour before that).

Tickets are only a dollar, and it would have been a lot of fun, I'm sure. We just ewren't willing to wait that long.
