I am posting this as a peaceful response to loco4dis' diatribe on the conservative thread http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=28202440#post28202440
post #1538 and to the unspoken (or spoken, I didn't read much more of the thread) stereotypes conservatives have of democrats.
I did not want to post on that thread because I don't really belong there, but was lead there by a link.
I am a life long democrat, the daughter of a Democratic senator and a republican mother. In his (her?) post loco4dis describes his view of the "average Obama supporter". His post is then lauded by 2 more posters. As I consider myself to be an "average" Obama supporter, I was deeply hurt by this post. I call myself average because I do not think I am better than others, just a woman living her life.
I am not a "sheep", and though I wouldn't deem myself a TRUE intellectual, I will say that I am pretty intellegent. I am a voracious reader, and have actually gotten through "more than two sentences of Obama's "plan".
I am not "aimless", not "soulless", nor does my "life lack meaning or spirituality". I am not hunting for "god" (his small g), as I have known him since I was a baby. I am a practicing Catholic, a religious education teacher, a PTA mom, a loving and true wife. I am a mother to four wonderful children who enrich my life on a daily basis.
I am moral, ethical, decent, honorable, and a former boss once told me that I have a servant's heart.
loco4 dis:" The number one reason they hate Sarah Palin is because she is happy, fulfilled, gloriously at peace with the life she has built. Liberals never get to feel like that."
I am a liberal, and feel like this on a daily basis. I also do not hate Sarah Palin, just don't agree with her.
I am a Democrat because of the way I was raised. We were a wealthy family. My father always helped out those in need. With money, with jobs, with material things that were needed, but also when they needed someone with a voice that people would listen to.
Obama is that voice today.
I don't need him to speak for me, but for those who so desperately need it.
My father was a great God loving man. When he helped those in need he didn't turn around and call them lazy, useless losers. He did what Jesus would have done; helped without judging the reason for the situation.
I am not a socialist, but I do believe the rich (especially those that claim to be Christians) should help the poor. We aren't going to go broke paying extra taxes to help fund programs for the needy. I may not get the 4 week vacay in Disney, but one of my fellow human beings wont starve today, and may even get a much needed education to better themselves.
I know this has been long, but here are some reasons why I am a democrat and what I believe the Democratic party stands for:
I believe in Diplomacy over military action.
I believe that stem-cell research should be legal because so many people could benefit.
I believe in the separation of church and state, one of the tenets that our country was founded on. Which leads me to my next reason.
I believe that abortion should be legal. Yes, I am a devout Catholic, but since the pro-life movement is based on religious beliefs and our country has the freedom of religion, I am pro-choice.
I want our education system out of the No Child left behind act. Vouchers are not helping improve the worst schools, they do help some kids, but not all. Our teachers should be able to teach more than just what is on "The Test".
There are more reasons, but let me wrap this up.
My liberal life is happy and bright. And though most of my friends and family are also democrats, I rarely run into someone like loco4dis has described. I don't live my life spewing hate and believing that only a certain political party has the lock on rich and rewarding lives.
My life is not a mirage, I am fully vested in reality.

Just because I wouldn't be deeply hurt doesn't mean someone else can't. If I was so sensitive, I would walk away. So this poster takes opinions of strangers on a message board to heart and wanted to paint a picture of who she is. So what?? I can't reasonably comment on it?? Alrighty then.
*Applause* Beautiful! Thank you for this!!!
