I've been away for a long time, but just visited the site for a bit of info after not being in Florida for 4 years, only to be surprised that I recognise a few old names! I was more of a reader than a contributor but hope you won't mind me drawing on your expertise once again.

Please tell me if you think I am mad to be contemplating a trip mid to late August. Has anyone travelled at this time? I understand crowds are fairly light, obviously because of the possiblilty of hurricanes! We are now restricted to school holidays so am rather limited in when to go.

Must just say hi to Cazzie, Goofyish and UKDeb who I'm sure helped me out in the past.

Hi Debsi,

Welcome back :)

We usually travel in mid to late August and within the constraints of school holidays, it is my favourite time to go.

It is extremely hot and very humid! But the evenings are lovely, still really nice and warm and balmy. It could be difficult for you if you don;t cope well with heat but we find it fine, just make sure we do lots of air conditioned attractions at strategic intervals, go swimming, drink lots etc.

You tend to get a daily torrential storm for about an hour at mid afternoon. Not always, but often.

What we particularly like about August (mid to late) is that it is not too crowded :)

ETA - I forgot to mention the hurricane situation! This is not something that would put me off, personally, but some folk do worry about this yes. It's a very personal decision, I think.

We are the same now too Deb and have to go August also.

The good thing is from mid-August onwards the crowds are pretty light as the US schools have returned.

Weather yes it is very hot and it does take a couple of days to adjust, I would not worry about the possible Hurricane threat - it would never put me off going.

Our main gripe about going in the summer is the sky-high flydrive prices.

It is still a popular time to go but having been last August there is nothing that would really put us off going - there are loads of people who like you are restricted to going at this time of the year.

Hi Debsi! :wave2: Yes, us oldies are still here and still planning trips. Tim (Goofyish) has just come back, and we leave next Thursday. Not sure about Cazzie.

Definitely not mad to go in August. We've been a couple of times over the summer months and I really don't think there's a 'bad' time to go. You just need to know what to expect (in terms of crowds and heat) and plan accordingly.

I don't think you'll find crowds are light as such, although most of the US kids go back to school after the second week of August, so you should miss the worst of the summer crowds. If you have to go during the summer holidays, I think the last two weeks of August are probably your best bet.

Have fun planning!

So far the end of Aug has been my favourite time to visit. It is hot and humid but with all the air conditioning it is easy to get out of the heat.
The parks were very quiet, so quiet in fact that me and DD got everything we wanted to do at US and IOA in 7 hours!
I`d go for it ::yes::
