Family will be traveling to Waikiki in May 2017. Few days at the Outrigger and then remaining trip at Aulani. We are interested in a helicopter tour. Any suggestions on companies or what to see from anyone? Thanks in advance!!

I did not take a helicopter tour on Oahu. However, I did take one on the Big Island (I would recommend it, if you were going to the Big Island) with Blue Hawaiian. I liked the company, as I know they had our safety in mind (our tour was cancelled because of weather a couple of times). It was a little bit of a pain to show up only to be told a few minutes prior to departure that it was being cancelled, but we understood the situation (it rained ALL day the day our tour was scheduled). They also worked with us to get us on another tour when their only available ones before we were to depart the island were full. I found the helicopter pilot to be VERY informative and liked that she tried to incorporate my kids into the conversation. I cannot speak to the tour of Oahu they offer, but if it is as well run as the one on the Big Island, it would be well worth it. I enjoyed that they had helicopters with much bigger windows because none of us had to strain to see anything. I also really liked that our pilot made multiple passes alternating the side of the helicopter with the best view so that everyone was able to see (was especially important when looking at the lava lake at the top of Pu'u 'O'o).

We used Makani Kai last October. They will pick you up (in the helicopter!) right at the Ko'Olina marina, which is very close to Aulani. They are the company that "Hawaii Five O" uses for filming. They go beyond the minimum safety regulations required for helicopter pilots. We ended up with a private flight because no one else booked for the same time as we did. Even though it was a rainy day on the eastern side of the island which prevented us from going all the way around, we got to see some amazing scenery! I highly recommend them.

Agree with lizard1 about Blue Hawaiian. Safety is first. We've toured with Blue Hawaiian Helicopters on Maui and Kauai. Great visibility and an intercom system so you can talk to each other during the tour. You can also buy a DVD of your flight. Blue Hawaiian is always my first choice.

I have booked Blue Hawaiian for our trip in October and this post makes me feel extra great about that decision. :) For those of you that booked Blue Hawaiian did you purchase the video at the end, how was it? Worth it?
