Height restrictions- so close-?

I think Disney imposes height measurements because it is easier to verify than age limits - which is what they are really measuring.

Being a former attractions cast member for SEVERAL years I know this is not true except for mattahorn and Go Gaget Roller coaster in toon town. These use to have age requirements but to many people were be dishonest so they put in a 35 inch restriction. Height restrictions are there for a reason. SAFETY!!!! If your child is 39 inches and you try to get them on a 40 inch ride just realize the risk involved. First of all...Disney is not responsible for that child and are not insured for a child under the hieght requirement which would automatically leave the parent at fault for any injurey a child receives if they are under the hieght restriction. Cast members are there as a courtsy to measure your child but you as the parent are responsible for there safety through out the park. They made this very clear to us while working there.

If a cast member gets caught letting in a child under the restriction it is now a automatic termination. These are new DOSH rules. So now there is more accountability with cast members letting on kids that are too small. They have planted kids that are too small for the ride to "check up on cast members" lately so if you notice they are more strict, it is because they want to keep their jobs :-)

If you use an device to make your child hieght higher you can be walked out of the park for not following disney guidlines.

Just a little insiders tip, shoes do count BUT if they are platform shoes, stuffed shoes, or shoes that are too big for the childs feet Cast members have every right to ask your child to remove there shoes. Also all boots and shoes with zippers must be zipped when children are measured.

These are recent changes and are there to make sure your child has a safe and fun Trip to Disneyland. Believe me no cast member likes to tell a child they are unable to ride but they do it becasue it is the policy set forth.

Before you respond these are Disney and DOSH rules not mine :-)

I LOVED when they used the do the little height bracelets. I wonder why they stopped doing that????
Some guest were putting them under water in the bathrooms and taking them off there older children and placing them on a child that was under the restriction for that braclet color so there younger children could ride attractions they were to small for. Also, the machine would not work properly in hot weather do to the way it was made giving wrong braclets to wrong heights. Once we had a cast member working at the height check post that was COLOR BLIND lol. That was a very interesting day!!!! :rotfl2:

Here's our story:

My son is rather short for his age, and his friends were able to ride certain rides before he could. We had APs, so we were at DL and DCA every few months last year. Every trip that year he wanted so much to go on Maliboomer but was never tall enough. We tried tall shoes, tall hair, everything. He would even measure in the morning and go back and try again in the evening, thinking maybe he'd grown during the day. Finally the day came when he was tall enough and the CM let him ride. It was probably his best day ever at DL and he was so excited to ride the Maliboomer that as soon as we got off, he had to call Dad and let him know. It's not much fun to have to wait to be able to ride the rides, but I think he enjoyed it that much more knowing how long he waited for it. (Anyway, a little delayed gratification never hurt anyone.)

Yes they are there for safety and they do now appear to have the correct heights again (saw the same thing I saw before a woman pulling out a tape meassure, same attraction even and the height was correct when i saw it before it wasn't.) Why did they ever have the wrong heights on the measuring things before anyway? This is one of the things that messed up the wristbands, kids were being given wrist bands and then the attractions said they couldn't ride, even if they had the proper colored wristbands, as they were remeasuring, I think they should take out the measuring at the individual rides and make all coming into the parks with kids get measured at measuring stations, which they should have several of throughout the park. This way people trained to properly measure heights are the ones that are doing it. And believe it or not, it is not an exact science, except with that clever machine they were using when they were testing the wristband idea.

Sometimes it depends on the ride. My DD is small for her age (she's almost 6, 36#, 41-1/2"). She was 40" last May. She finally was able to ride Soarin'. She absolutely loves it! However, she only recently was able to ride Jumping Jellyfish. They were much stricter on measuring. When I mentioned to the CM that she been riding Soarin' for months, the CM said-"we're more strict than Soarin'" Anyway now she can ride the Jellyfish and I'm hoping she'll grow a little bit more before Sept. so when we go to WDW she can ride more rides-she loves thrill rides (just started to appreciate them in the last 4-5 months).

38 days to WDW!
