Heelys Ban

Of course all of these bans will be pointless if businesses don't enforce them. It'll be interesting to see if they do and what will happen when the inevitable lawsuit is filed.

Heelys are banned in our mall and all our local grocery stores too.

Lynn - where are you finding them banned in Maryland. I see them in Annapolis Mall all the time.

Subscribing.....I'm also in Maryland & I'd love to know too.
I hate those darned things.
I'll be glad when this fad is over.

I wish they'd ban them in Disney.. My friends and I were almost mauled down by 3 teenie boppiers on heelies in Downtown Disney... I have also seen them in the parks and the kids don't care who the shove out of their way when they can't stop. One kid fell flat backwards on his tush.. I don't know how he didn't hurt himself because he hit hard.. :sad2:

see Cheshire Figment's comments about WDW's published policy. Many people have writted to WDW over the past year and have gotten emails that say WDW considers Heelys to be skates (which have been banned for a long time).

As for CM's not enforcing it, I have seen CMs stop kids who are gliding on their Heelys. One of the problems with enforcement is that all of a sudden, you see a kid gliding in front of you, you're not quite sure of what you saw and then the kid is gone.

DD went to a skating party the other day, and she had her Heelys on. She also took her skates with her. This was a private party - as in the skating rink was closed except for this party. There were younger kids, so moms were out there in regular shoes helping their little ones get used to her skates. Anyway, DD went out on the rink to tell her friend something before changing into her skates, and the DJ told her she couldn't wear Heelys on the skating floor. :confused3 I could see it if street shoes weren't allowed, but they are - even strollers are allowed out there. It was no big deal as she didn't plan on leaving them on, so she just changed into her roller blades, but I had to laugh - "Sorry, no skating on the skating rink floor." :rolleyes1

What kind of wheels do heelies have? At our skating rink, they never used to allow the skate shoes with 4 wheels, and they didn't allow certain types of roller blades because they didn't want to damage the floors.

I was at a upscale pizza place which is about a 30 minute drive from my house. They have really great pizza and it's very nice, large restaurant in a well to do suburb of Chicago. The parking lot is always filled with high end cars and the place is a favorite of people living on the North Shore. You have to reserve tables for large groups well in advance and this place is a literally a gold mine. The point of my story is, when my family and my in laws went there for pizza, a large family came in the door and three of the kids had those damn heelys.

They were rolling around and my BIL never saw those things before and couldn't believe what he was seeing. The parents of these little darlings weren't paying attention to them until the owner said something to the kids. I could see across the restaurant at how angry the mom was getting at the manager/owner and of course she made a scene. Never mind the fact that her kids were in the wrong and skating past the bar area where people were carrying trays of soda and draft beer. The floor was very similar to what you see in McDonald's and would be very unforgiving, if the kid had fell. She of course didn't see it that way and stormed out in a huff. I was amazed she couldn't see the managers point of view and how dangerous it was for her kids to use those things indoors. I will be glad when this fad has passed and the manufacturer of those damn things is reeling from a ton of lawsuits.

Remember these? I don't recall them causing nearly the uproar that heelies did, and I never saw kids wearing them in stores the way kids do now with heelies. I wonder why there's such a difference.

They shoudl already be banned. Are roller skates/blades allowed? Most malls already have these signs.

MIkeeee

IMO the solution is really simple and logical. These shoes should be banned anywhere other skates and skate boards are not allowed. They are a danger in crowded places whether that place has a roof or not.

Ban them! Ban tennis shoes too, they squeak too much and bare feet, anywhere, yuck... Ban them, that's the ticket. LOL. Can't hardly find anyone who's in favor of banning handguns (and in Florida they can be legally concealed) but heely's by gosh we've got a consensus! :rotfl:

Is the right to use heelys in the Constitution? It's a big document with lots of hard words. Maybe it is.

I don't know but I wish they would ban them in my freaking grocery store!!!!!
I noticed that Giant banned them a few weeks ago.:woohoo: I haven't noticed a sign at the other groecery stores or the mall but I haven't been out much with all the bad weather here lately.

At our superbowl party we were discussing them and I was shocked that my friend lets her children wear them to the grocery stores/malls. I said out loud that is like riding a skate board or skates in a store and I wouldn't let my girls do that. (Guess I shouldn't have said it out loud but a drink will do that to me :rotfl: ) I also went off about kids not wearing a helmet and other protective gear with them. I guess I won't be invited over there for a while. :hippie:

Oh good grief. There's a difference between banning handguns in private establishments (or Heelys in this case) as opposed to the right to own a gun.

I don't want guns brandished in my kids' school and I firmly believe that will NOT infringe upon your right to own one.

As for Heelys. I saw a kid in the grocery store last night with a pair on and he almost slammed into my cart. I think I would have laughed and rolled my eyes at the parents.

Apparently, there are a lot of places that Heelys can't be used -- but somehow I see Heelys in all those places. So, the bans don't seem to work very well.
