HEELIES (those darn sneaker skates

We just got back and boy was my ds mad. I told him that Disney would not let him use Heelies, so he left them at home. Then we got there and every other kid had heelies.

We did not have any problems with kids running into us or bothering us, just my ds was fit to be tied that HE did not have HIS heelies and HE could not scoot around!

Oh well........

Following the rules when everyone else does not is not always fun!

I personally feel that the Heelies themselves are not the problem. The problem is the kids using the heelies and not respecting the people around them. Also, blame the parents that do not teach children proper etiquette for the use of the shoes or discipline the child for improper use. My DD, 7, has a pair and I let her wear them when we go out to the grocery store, mall, etc. However, she knows when she enters a congested area, she can not use the wheels. My DD, 11, is in a wheelchair. I had to teach her the same type etiquette with the use of her wheelchair. I will say this... my DD, 11, has probably had twice as many non-heely, able-bodied people as run over her at the park. Most have little regard for my daughter and most don't even apologize.

On a side note.... I was at church last weekend (CAtholic mass) and a kid was wearing Heelies up to receive Communion. The kid totally walked up, after he received communion, he skated back to his seat!!!! It really cracked me up (a little irreverent, but funny, nonetheless).... The kid's Mom, fuming, grabbed my my the back on his neck and they stormed out of the church....5 minutes later they came back in---the kid wearing only his socks.... HA!
:lmao:

You just made my day!:rotfl: Thanks to the mom for taking control.

I think Heelys are fine for kids and fun but there are a time and a place for them. Yesterday DS9 had his best freind over and the kid had his Heelys on and he started to skate on my hardwood floors. I asked him not to do it again I didnt want the floors scratched so he stopped except he did it again on my pergo kitchen floor. This is usually one of his friends I have no problems with so it kind of surprised me that he didnt listen. Well mom comes to pick him and he does it acroos my floors again to the front door. Well she yelled at him and apologized to me and he was like "what". He could not really fathom what the issue was.

I think this habit of wheeling everywhere becomes something they just do and not even think about, at least that is what I was seeing with him. He just seemd genuinely clueless. I was gald mom was on board about not doing it again.

I don't like them much either but DS(9) is on his 3rd pair. He got the double wheeled ones for Christmas. He is very upset that he will not be able to wear them in the World.

When we were there last year we were coming out of a ride and saw a mom and her 2 kids Heelying down the walkway. DS told me that the next time we came down he wanted me to get a pair so that we could do that.

Interesting topic because it always amazing me when I see kids with these things in the store. It seems to me to be unsafe not only for those kids but for everyone. I am glad that they are banned @ WDW and I am sure other stores will ban them soon as well. My kids do not have any and they will not get any, but I understand how they appeal to kids.

They are banned in a few places in PA. The malls don't want them, the local party city has a sign banning them in the store and the schools don't allow them.

DS wore his to school one day without us knowing and got caught with them. He had to write a paper on the dangers of them. His teacher went on the internet and got some information about them and printed it out for him. He had to read that and then write about the dangers.
