Im sure this has been talked about on here, but as a recent member I havent looked it up on the old posts. I HOPE they DONT allow them in the parks,,,or do they?

they are really bad for the kids.. if you watch the way they walk they are tippy toeing if they wear them all the time it will cause damage and they will have to get surgry. i have a friend thats son is autistic and tippy toe walks and it looks just like how he walks. do people not realize what they are doing to their kids. and they are so dangous to others i have gotten hit some many time by kids with the shoes on it drives me crazy

Someone else posted that WDW has made them illegal...not sure if they were joking, wishing or telling the truth. I know as a kid, they must be fun to wear but as an adult, I can't stand them. The kids will come flying out of no where (or so it seems).

I know what you mean...I HATE them, but on the flip side my DD has a pair and LOVES them, but I do NOT let her heeley in the stores or in crowded areas and I can't stand when parents do...it is dangerous to other people let alone themselves. JMHO though

Heelies are NOT allowed into the parks. This is hard to enforce, as CM's would have to check everyone's shoes as the enter the park, but if kids are seen wearing them CM's are supposed to ask them to stop using the wheels. I have read on here that some CM's will confiscate the wheels from the shoes if they see them and also that some CM's have told guests there will be a $150 fine if they are worn to the parks. Not sure about how often this happens though.

WDW didn't make them illegal, the state of Florida has made it illegal to wear them in parks.

This is directly from the WDW website at http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/common/helpFAQ?id=HelpFAQThemeParkPage

"Q. Are there any personal items I should not bring with me into the Theme Parks?

A. Items that you may not bring into the Theme Parks include, but are not limited to:

Items with wheels, such as wagons, skateboards, scooters, inline skates, shoes with built-in wheels, two-wheeled or three-wheeled conveyances, strollers larger than 36" x 52", suitcases, coolers, or backpacks with or without wheels larger than 24" long x 15" wide x 18" high (coolers required for medication may be stored in a locker or at Guest Relations), and any trailer-like object that is pushed or towed by an ECV wheelchair or stroller
Alcoholic beverages
Weapons of any kind
Folding chairs
Glass containers (excluding baby food jars and perfume bottles)
Pets (unless they are service animals)
In Disney's Animal Kingdom® Theme Park (for the safety of the wildlife), balloons, straws and drink lids are not permitted."

My dd loves them as well....I sure hope disney doesn't confisicate them and charge $150 ?!! That's ridiculous unless they fully disclose this policy. You can't have someone walk into a park, not aware of this policy and hit them with $150 fine and take the wheels. I can totally see a CM asking a child to take the wheels out. If wdw is going to start charging $150 fine for Heelys, then they also better start charging $150 fines for people who smoke all over in the non-smoking areas. Can't tell u how many of these folks I ran into the past few trips. Smoke in our faces.....hot ashes blowing back into our faces.....but that is another topic..........

As you said, another topic....HOWEVER, I cannot stand this, I actually commented rather loudly a few times during my last trip when this was going on. IMHO, completely unacceptable!!!

I am glad that Heeley's are not allowed in the parks, however, I did also see several of these being worn (and used in several instances) during my last trip. I must have seen it or 4 times in the World of Disney all in the same day, definitely NOT the place for that as it is always packed to begin with!

Sounds like Heeleys are a great opportunity for parents to teach their kids about social responsibility, consequences and appropriate places to have fun using them -- not just at WDW Theme Parks, but also hotels, food courts and basically, anywhere outside one's house.

So what's the chances of this happening and the kids actually listening? :lmao:

I'm on both sides of the fence on this one. DD8 has a pair a absolutely loves them. She knows she has to watch where she skates on them and always be aware of who is around her. I do agree that Disney World is not the place for them. On another post started about this it was noted many times about people being knocked over, ran over and trays of food being knocked out of hands. That is why they are inappropriate for an amusement park. DD would lose her heelys for good if she ever knocked another person down or knocked food out of their hands. I just hate the fact that we are going to MK on Monday for a quick trip and again in June for a long vacation and I know that we will see kids wearing them. DD will get mad when she sees other kids wearing them. We have talked about it and she has no problem with the fact that she cannot take them with her and she understands why. I just think it's hard on the little one's when they are told they can't wear them but turn around and see other people wearing them. I know my dd will loudly say "Oh, momma they are going to get in trouble!" when she sees someone in them. I'm just glad that there are other parents out there who don't have problems with Heely's but teach their children the responsibility that comes with having them. I know so many people hate them but rest assured that my child is NOT one that you will see with Heely's on at DW.

Just wanted to say thank you for sharing your insights and how you teach your daughter about these. Thank you, thank you!!

we saw tons of kids wearing them this past week - saw a girl at the mk wipe out and then the mother makes rude remark to woman that innocently caused it - she walked out of store and girl came flying by and ended up going off of curb. my daughter would love them but they are not meant for the parks - many heated discussions about them on here - some parents are SOOOO -- clueless and irresponsible!!

On a side note.... I was at church last weekend (CAtholic mass) and a kid was wearing Heelies up to receive Communion. The kid totally walked up, after he received communion, he skated back to his seat!!!! It really cracked me up (a little irreverent, but funny, nonetheless).... The kid's Mom, fuming, grabbed my my the back on his neck and they stormed out of the church....5 minutes later they came back in---the kid wearing only his socks.... HA!
:lmao:

"Oh, you can't get to heaven (oh you can't get to heaven) :music:
On roller skates (on roller skates) :charac2:
cuz you'll roll right by (cuz you'll roll right by) :music:
those pearly gates (those pearly gates) :charac2:

:rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl2:

That communion story is too funny!

My kids want them but i hate them so only way they will get a pair is if they buy them. I hate watching kids just skate by and hit people and things. They don't even say excuse me our sorry

That is too funny. :rotfl: But honestly do parents not pay attention to what they're kids put on. If dd puts her Heely's on before we go to church I make sure she doesn't have the wheels in. I was just talking to someone that works at our church (we're Catholic too) and we were laughing saying that our priest would probably take off down the isle after him (we have a really young priest). I just couldn't imagine the sight of a kid heelying back from communion.

I'm glad you all got a kick out of that heelies story...you really should've been there.
I'm totally gonna check the kid out this week at church and see if he is wearing his Heelies again.... :rotfl2:
