Ok...before you flame:firefight let it be known I personally hate Heeley's. That being said my kids adore them. Is there a park rule regarding them? I know that it is not a rollar skate, so not sure. The mall's around here still allow them although I keep waiting for them to be banned here soon. Some of the school's around here allow you to wear them but you had to remove the wheel.
TIA...

They say no skates. I don't see the difference, they are skates. I have been run into several times and don't believe Disney is the place for these.

Sorry, I don't know the policy and I get where you are coming from but, I would go against wearing them. JMHO

Cannot remember WDW but having just returned from DL there are not very many smooth aka heely/skate friendly surfaces. rail tracks, cobblestones, etc. Not to mention little room to manouever. And any Disney park will suck with a broken leg! Besides, how far ahead do you want the kids rolling in a crowd of people?

I was just curious if WDW had policy yet. I understand everyone's opinion because I too dislike them.
They do have little wheels on the heels but they are not skates...kids swear they are very comfy shoes.
To answer the question about the distance I would let my kids go in front of me...My DD will be a few months shy of 14 so if she gets a little ahead of us it is no big deal. My DS will be 7 and I see him holding on to us and us pulling him along as he gets tired.

From what I have heard and read here, the official policy at WDW is no heelies :wizard:

I have seen a CM tell a child and their parent that they are not allowed to use them in the parks. The reason given was that the ground is too uneven and that kids are taken to First Aid on a regular basis because of falls.

Hope it helps.

From All Ears net web site

For the safety of all guests, skateboards, roller skates, scooters, inline skates, and any type of footwear with wheels are all strictly prohibited on the public walkways of Walt Disney World. The only exception to this is at the Fort Wilderness Campground. Unless you're staying at Fort Wilderness, leave the wheels at home. There's so much to do at WDW, the kids won't even miss them. Check out All Ears Net's® Beyond the Parks pages for a few ideas to keep kids busy outside of the theme parks.

Sure did...and thanks for not flameing!

I looked on allearsnet.com and I guess I just over looked that. THANKS! I am not worried about them running out of things to do...just wasn't sure if they were allowed in the parks or not. Thanks for the info!

No flame intended, i understand you do not like them, even hate them you said. So.....why do your kids HAVE them? Unless they wear helmets and padding, and that would only be around where we live, i would never allow them.
During our last trip, we saw many kids flying out of control and a few nasty falls.
I read on another board where the CM took the wheels and held til they left the park that day.

I didn't take that as a flame...but to answer your question, just because I don't like them doesn't mean they (my kids) don't like them. My kids have and do alot of things that I personally don't like...especially my dare devil son. He does have a helmet and pads for his skateboard and BMX but I have not worried about them with the Heeley's. Honestly, I have been more worried about injury when he decided he wanted to do little league Wrestling.
I think one reason I dislike them is because I have seen so many kids run loose with them and run into people and such. My kids know that if they do ANYTHING like that, their heeley's will be NO MORE! I don't mind them for really any other reason other than that.

Also, sorry to read about your Ashlea. I know where you are coming from...I had to let go of my baby "Peanut" on 10/13/06.

I e-mailed WDW about this a few months back, in light of another thread. The official response was Heelys are not permitted.

On a personal note, here's why my kids are not permitted to have Heelys. My wife is a pediatrician, and unfortunately, much of the cost of our WDW vacations is paid for by Heelys, if you know what I mean.

Thanks for your words about Ashlea. It is still very hard, as you know. Sorry to hear about your Peanut :sad1:

We have alot in common actually! I have a daredevil son too, he's a bit older at age 21, but the worry never stops..even when they get older! He's into hiking, mountain biking, snowboarding, rock climbing. I think i'd rather not even know when he's doing these things!

My younger son is 11 and never really liked the heelies, he's just at the age where they're getting out of that phase i guess. He is starting to take after his older brother.

I applaud you for taking the stand that its ok for the kids to use the heelies but not if they run into others. some parents would not care that much, as long as their kids were happy!

Forewarn the kids -- they will see many other kids with heelies wheeling around the park. My son has them but we did not take them to WDW as we had discussed with him that it was against the rules. I couldn't believe all the heelies we saw there! I saw them fly right by CM's with no consequence. :confused3

I wasn't gonna say anything but the last post really reflects my feelings on this...

If heelys aren't allowed, it needs to be posted. It's not a good thing for parents that know it's against the rules to tell their kids they can't wear them, then the kids get to the parks and see other kids flying all over the place...what does that say to the kid? Rules are only for a few, not all?

Rules should apply to everyone, but it's really hard to fault those that don't know the rule. Now, if you know the rules but decide not to follow them, that's another matter and I won't even GO there this morning, lol. Let's just say it's amusing how people think rules only apply to OTHER people...which makes the WDW experience less enjoyable for everyone...but I said I wouldn't go there...:headache:

To me it's kind of common sense...if you wouldn't/can't skateboard, roller skate or inline skate in a particular place, what makes heelys any different, IMHO? :confused3

Thanks...we do try to follow the rules, and I had not thought to tell the kids that just because we will doesn't mean everyone else will regarding the Heeley's.

Also, Yes I guess it would be common sence if I thought the Heeley's were skates, but I look at them differently since the kids can easily walk in them. I just wanted to ask an honest question as to not break any rules.

I think my 'common sense' comment came off more harsh than I meant it too...sorry about that. It wasn't meant the way it sounded, I assure you!! What I should have said is that I see them as skates and same rules apply. Obviously you have loads of sense...you thought to ask the question. I wish more parents were so courteous.

Hope you have a great time on your trip!

Thanks I feel better now...:cutie:

Yes, they are in the parks. On our last visit we saw many CM's tell them no HEELEYs, no skating in the park. On our last day there while going through baggage check a CM got out her tool to take the wheels out and told a mom that they needed to remove the wheels or they would not be permitted in the parks. And they did remove them with a smile on their face.
