Heaviness of ECV

Could anyone give me an idea of how heavy the ECV will be if we rent off site. We will have a rental car and will need to put it in the trunk. I am unsure of how complicated this will be. Thanks so much for your help.

We rented an ECV off-site at Disneyland for my dad last year. They are fairly big and heavy. I'm not sure if you'll be able to fit it into the trunk of a car. One of our friends owns one that she needs all the time and they had an electric lift installed on the back of their car. They secure the ECV to the lift, raise it off the ground and put a plastic cover on it. They haul it around on the back of the car.

You may want to call the ECV rental company and ask the best way to transport it.

I think you just need to ask the rental co. how many pieces the ECV you're renting breaks down into (most are 5). They break down really quickly, and usually the heaviest piece is between about 38-48 lbs. If you have someone in your party who can life that amount, you'll be fine. They will fit into most car trunks, perhaps not a really small compact; ask the car rental co. what type of car they use for the class you are renting, and then ask the rental co. if it should fit into that car's trunk. They can probably tell you without a problem. FWIW, my husband lifts mine into the car or the van with very little difficulty, and puts it back together in about a minute(maybe a minute and a half). Have a magical trip!

I would strongly recommend renting from Randy's Mobility (see link in the FAQ). While most off-site companies leave the ECV at Bell Services, Randy's delivers it directly to the customer. They will demonstrate taking it apart, and watch while you reassemble it - to make sure you know what you're doing.

Note correct. The batteries for most of the larger (and most of the rental) ECVs tend to be the U-1 which is 24.5 pounds each, so the two together are about 50 pounds.

On my old scooter (Ranger Solo) the heaviest part was the motor/rear wheel assembly which was 39 pounds. For my new one (Pride Celebrity-X) the rear section is 45 pounds and the total weight, without batteries, is 141 pounds..

I recommend Randys also. I ordered from him last fall and he was great with showing me how to disassemble it and put it back together. Make sure you tell him that you want to be able to put it in a car. He provides a different model if that is the case. (and much nicer by the way!)

But Shugardrawers ended up having him bring her a regular scooter (not one specific to be in a car) and she was the one to use the car instead of me. Hers was also easy to disassemble but I think it took 2 people to get it into and out of the trunk, but that may have just been because we were all whimpy girls!

He can tell you what size car to rent. Oh, and a note of caution. You might want to bring and old sheet with you to cover the trunk/back seat if you are using a rental car. Shug's scooter seat left grease on the back seat of the rental car and they were desperately trying to clean it before the car was turned back in.

Go on-line and check out www.walkersmobility.com and they will show you a video and/or slideshow on how to take apart an ECV and put it back together again. They also rent different ones depending weight and whether or not you are going to be taking it apart. My travel agent recommended this company. She has used it several times before and has never had any problems. They will also deliver and pick-up at your hotel. Hope this helps! I'm using them for our upcoming trip to WDW in June! Hope you have a ball!

We rented a heavy duty ECV from Randy's last year. My husband is morbidly obese, and cannot walk for very long. The ECV was in excellent condition, almost new, handled very well, had a long battery charge, but it was REALLY heavy. DH and DS and I would fold it up and then do the heave ho and get it into the back of the Suburban. I know the smaller ones are not as heavy. Make sure you talk to the rental agency and ask them about portability and getting it in and out of your car. Many of the rental companies emailed us user manuals so that we could review before we made our choice on the model we wanted to rent. They were very helpful.
