Heavenly Ham vs. Store bought HELP!

Glad your meal turned out well. But don't be afraid of ham, I think it's one of the easiest meats to cook and if you follow the package directions you won't go wrong.

If you're intimidated by a whole ham, a really nice quick dinner is to brush ham steaks with real maple syrup or honey and heat in the oven. Yummy and easy.

Seems I'm a day late and a dollar short, but here goes...

I do the spiral sliced hams. I loved The Honeybaked Ham Store hams, but they MUST be fresh. I ordered one delivered frozen and they're just not the same, and we haven't live near one for several years now.

Yep, they just need heated up. They're already cooked. I take cans of sliced pineapple one usually does the size I can find at Aldi. Place the slices all over the half ham and secure with toothpicks. Then take the juice in the can, stir in a few tablespoons of brown sugar and pour over the ham. I baste a few times while I heat it according to the directions on the package.

I even managed to make one in my roaster while I was out on Christmas morning by putting it in a turkey bag and securing it to the ham with toothpicks so it wouldn't touch the sides and burn. (You have to put it on the rack to keep it off the bottom) Worked great. We were able to put it in at a slightly lower temp before we left for my mom's that morning, and it was ready to go by the lunch we served at 1pm!!

You guys are the best!

This is just the beginning of my life with hams! Our family goes to Cape May, courtesy of my mother and father-in-law, with 4 other families. We all live in one big house for the week. Each family is in charge of dinner for the group for one night. (I guess you know where I am going with this!!) We are definitely doing a ham dinner this year. It was pretty easy, and I can prepare the potato casserole in advance. I think I may even add a tray of Stouffers mac and cheese for the kids.
