Heathrow to Gatwick?

Hello Again! Still working on vacation plans, and I've come up with an airport question. It's looking like we'll have to transfer from Heathrow to Gatwick when we return. (We'll be flying back from Paris.)

So, how long do we need to get from Heathrow to Gatwick? My guess is we'll be taking the bus system that runs between the two, but I'm open to other suggestions. (The best flight schedule I've seen so far gives us four hours. That seems kind of short.)

When we came home from Australia last November our flight from Heathrow to Manchester got cancelled One of the options they gave us was to go over to Gatwick to catch a flight from there. They told us it would take a "good" hour. Didn't do it so can't be certain- just what i was told.

The actual journey between the two is around an hour, but you will obviously need to allow time for traffic...which can be extremely heavy here...waiting for the bus, and checking in at Gatwick. I would say 4 hours is probably just about enough time but I'm the sort of person who likes to be at the airport in plenty of time so I'd like a little longer.
