For the first time we are flying from Heathrow - now getting there is not a problem as DH works at the airport but as our flight departs at 9.40 am and we will not want to get up too early, as we will have just returned from a week in Sheffield, we thought we would splash out and start our hols right by staying at the airport. We are looking for a decent hotel that provides a family room preferably with a double and 2 singles or 2 doubles, bunk beds for the kids are no good as eldest DS is 6'6" and struggles with a normal single. Any recommendations . Thanks

Oh and HAPPY NEW YEAR

They've got them pretty much covered. There are loads near Terminal 1 and 2 but thats just a bit to far away.

Hiya
A couple of years ago my mum and dad stayed at the Holiday Inn and really rated it (go on website and they usually have special offers) Also (i think) HI express have a hotel there both do good sized family rooms, and if you can fall on a good rate it is well worth the money.

Have stayed at the Thistle (family of 4) & the Renaissance (family of 5) & would visit both again. Check Holiday Extras for prices & use the London Transport buses for free instead of paying for the Hoppa ;)

Thanks for the replies - we will look into them, parking is not an issue we will use long term car park free (a perk of DH job!), so will take a look at hotel websites

We've stayed at the Park Inn and Crowne Plaza - would recommend both. The Crowne Plaza was a larger room - we had two king size beds for three of us, but I know they do family rooms.

We paid £108 March 06 for Park Inn with up to 15 days parking and last October we paid £89 for the Crowne Plaza and 15 days parking because I opted for the 'mystery hotel' knowing it was going to be either of the above (you read the hotel description and can guestimate from what it says which hotel it's going to be - both within 1 mile of airport is the give away for these two) - through www.holidayextras.co.uk. You can get even cheaper mystery hotels, bit we wanted somewhere within a few mins since we were leaving at 5,30am this October.

You get the Hoppa bus from either - cost us £5 each adult (kids under 15 free) for a return trip last March. October we opted for a cab since didn't know how the service would be at 5.30am. Glad we did because the Q for the Hoppa was horrendous:scared1: Lots of people didn't get on the once bus we saw - I would have been really panicking.

Following an email from Travelodge I took the plunge and booked two family rooms at their nearest lodge to Heathrow, they have a special offer on at the moment rooms in July, August and September, from £9 a night so got 2 rooms one for the boys and one for us for £18 - you have to pay now and it can be cancelled but you get no refund but for that money! We will just use it to sleep and go to airport for free parking and breakfast on BAA courtesy of DH christmas day bonus of £25 vouchers! If they had not sent me the email I would have booked the crowne plaza as we belong to their priority club as it looked a good size room. Thanks for help though.

WE stayed at thw Jury's Inn in September. We got the free bus from the terminal and were dropped off at the tube station. A 5min walk and we were at the hotel. I appreciate that it might be more difficult with more family members and lugage - there was just DH and myself with 2 holdalls. Hotel itself was excellent - very clean and comfortable. Got an early morning call at 6am and found all staff very helpful. Would stay there again.

We usually stay at Marriott Slough / Windsor which is 1 more stop along the M4. Nice Pool, Toby Carvery Opposite or Harvester 5 min walk.

Marriot Slough Windsor is lovely, as is the Marriot by Heathrow itself. Toby Carvery good too ;)
I have also stayed in the Park Inn which I liked too, but not quite as much as the Marriot chain.
