Hola! My name is Heather, I'm 37 and I'm *gasp* overweight. Only about 6 years ago, I was 101lbs. I was weighed at the dr. just before Christmas, and I was 157lbs. :scared1: Just a year ago, I was 125. I'm 5'3, so every pound shows.
A lot of the weight gain I can blame on depression. Not only the meds, but the fact that I turn to food when I am depressed. I had to leave my job in April due to my condition and have developed a sort of shut-in mentality. I hate to drive, I hate to go out. Just about everything I bought for Christmas, I got online. My DD works at a grocery store, so I send her to work with a list. I drink Dt. Mt Dew (I quit it once and lost at least 5lbs). I don't drink alcohol, and that's the only thing I have going for me.
Hmm, what else? Oh, I have resorted to wearing yoga pants because they fit. None of my jeans do.
I was the kind of person who people told I needed to gain weight. No one could believe how quickly I lost baby weight. Boy, those days are long gone.
I have problems sticking with things, so don't be suprised if you never hear from me again. Seriously. I have very little faith in myself.
My BMI is 27.8 I'm not too far from obesity. I want to cry.

Ok, here's my first question. Should I start changing now, or wait til New Years? It seems like a lot of New Years Resolutions fail. Part of me wants to get off my fat but and start walking around the neighborhood, even though I have no idea where my pedometer is. Please help!

Start now!!

Good for you for wanting to make a change. I am motivated by a challenge - we did a walking challenge at work using pedometers and only a month after some major surgery was walking several days a week - i'm up to (when the weather cooperates!) 5 or 6 days a week now - I even go walk by myself.

I also started back at Weight Watchers after a month of walking - the combination of walking and watching what I eat has led to a 17.5 pound weight loss since October.

The benefits, besides weight loss, is that with walking I feel SO much better - and the exercise will help with the depression. I used to need to take a nap on Sunday afternoons - just needed extra sleep - now that I'm not eating tons of sugar and I walk so much I have more energy. My kids claim I "power" walk now!

Start today - you CAN do this!!

Hi Heather! Why not start changing now! I started around the same BMI (177 and 5'5.5")

Thanks for the inspiration. I didn't get to walk today as my 17 year old has a horrible stomach bug and has been vomiting all day. I was worried to leave her alone. If she is better tomorrow, I'll start. I already have my route mapped out.
