Heat Rash

We are planning a trip in late August. On the last two trips (which were in May) a person in our party got a heat rash on their lower legs. Does anyone know if there is anything that can help prevent this, other then warring long pants?

yep! body glide. its made specifically for runners and after getting rashes every summer in the heat from sweat, i read about it on here! saved my legs both in october and in april. i think its sold under different names in the states tho, but most running stores/sports stores carry it.

It's not conventional heat rash. It's a combination of the extra walking and the heat radiating up from the pavement. It makes a red and very itchy area, yes?

Nothing to do to prevent it, but bring hydrocortisone to help with the itching, and keep the legs elevated as much as possible.

I live here and get this every time I'm outside on hot pavement for any length of time.

Gold Bond powder - I got a heat rash from working out and my Dr. put me on a prescription as well as told me to put on the Gold Bond powder and it worked like a charm!! Cleared it up in 2 days!! Been using it since and been great! :goodvibes

Cornstarch powder helps a lot if it's real heat rash and not the heat eruption type rash the other poster mentioned.

I have had this everytime I go to Disney in the summer. The doctors in Iowa don't seem to understand what it is. But when I'm at Disney, I see it on mostly women every once in awhile. I can go to Disney when it's cool in October or December and walk all day long into the night and I never get this. But if it's hot, the rash and red blotching starts in a few hours. It burns and hurts. By the 2nd or 3rd day, I can barely take standing on my legs. Feels like a sunburn.

I've posted on here before and nobody seemed to understand what it is. But there's a lot of women at Disney that have it. I'd say 1 out of every 300 women I see at Disney have it. Just a guess from what I've observed. The humidity makes it worse, I think. We went to Arizona in over 100 degree weather and hiked all over, and I never had any rash at all. So the dryness must have helped. Mine starts as a rash and begins to look like blotches and almost welts. I wouldn't really call it a rash. More like swollen blotches. My dermatologist gave me some powerful prescription cream that seems to help called Clobe?? Anybody else understand what this is?

Thank you all for your helpful feed back. I will pass along this information to my friend.

I am sorry that this seems to happen to a lot of people. Not a fun thing to have while on vacation. Thank you again for your help.

A quart of 5W30 applied to your legs and copious amounts of beer will prevent it.

did this rash occur at epcot? from what i understand, there is a special ingredient in the pavement at epcot that makes it reflect more light, and it causes a rash on people, like myself, who are photosensitive. i'm allergic to the sun, but have NEVER needed sunscreen on my legs, just from the waist up (i know, weird, lol). however, at epcot, i also have to put sunscreen on my legs, or i get a red, splotchy rash that itches worse than anything you could ever imagine! i've seen other people walking around with it too. sunscreen may help, it works for me. i use neutrogena 50+.

I have found the best thing is a cornstarch baby powder. It smells better than gold bond.

I am also allergic to the sun, and I also use Neutrogena only I use spf100 and it usually helps some. I do experience the itching and red blotching on my legs though, my skin is so sensitive it even reacts to the sunblock sometimes

I'm going to try sunscreen and body glide this year to see if i can keep those red splotches away!! :thumbsup2

I get a horrendous leg rash every time we're at WDW. I saw the dermatologist this week, and she recommended reapplying sunscreen every hour. She also said that the same RX I use for eczema might be helpful with keeping the rash at bay and to give it a try during our trip.

For heatrash, and usual chafing stuff I ADORE Monistats anti-chafing gel. It is a Godsend. But it doesn't sound like whatyou describe is standard heatrash. Maybe hydrocortisone?

Snug fitting crew socks. I know they are quite a fashion statement but they help keep your circulation from pooling in your legs.

Yes! This happened to me in May at Epcot, and I've never had any kind of burn on my legs before. In fact, I thought perhaps I had been bitten by something. I am also quite fair and wear sunscreen all over, except for my legs. Anyway, we finally went to the First Aid office and the nurse said it was heat rash, and happened to mostly women. She recommended aloe/solarcaine and raising my legs.

Usually we go to Dis in December, so it was a first for me. If we go again in the summer, I'll obviously try some heavy duty sunscreen, and will consider socks.

I had a heat eruption like rash on my lower legs during a 60 mile breast cancer walk. Someone else noticed it and said that it mostly had to do with heat radiating from the pavement and irritating my skin. She recommended that I wipe my legs down with a cool clothe occasionally. She also suggested that I put a cool clothe on my neck to cool my entire body down.

It seemed to work like a charm. My situation didn't feel like a sunburn as much as the skin was just too hot.

Hope this helps!

I do the 3 day breast cancer walk as well and a lot of the problem is that women shave their legs and put on non-breathable sunscreen and then sweat and your pores get blocked. So if you are going to shave your legs, do it in the evening, make sure you have breathable sunblock on, or body glide.
