Heat, Humidity, and Our Favorite Disney Dog Was a Thug! LINK TO NEW PTR!!

I have always wanted to try Cape May. I love the characters in their beach wear. Looks like lots of fun. I think it is so funny that Willow asked Minnie where the bathroom was. She is adorable!

Isn't Cape May fun? It seems so more laid back than the rest of the characters meals. But, I agree, I wouldn't go unless I was staying at one of the Epcot resorts.

Did you make Willow's Pocohontas dress too? :worship: That is seriously too cute! With a matching headband too!

Christine

Every visit to Cape May we have had has been a great experience. I agree, the food is just the usual breakfast stuff and nothing special, but the characters here are always so much fun. And they really take some time with you. We had Chip and Dale here as well one year. They were great fun!!!
I think cruising after a week at the parks would be wonderful!

Cape may looks right up my alley! I'd live on the beach if possible (hmmmm--and here I am stuck in landlocked Missouri where it is currently snowing. There's something wrong with that!). I had to laugh at willows plate--love the Mickey waffle buried under a mound of whipped cream and chocolate chips! Looks like a great start to your day!
Cape May really was a lot of fun, and the atmosphere was definitely beachy! If I were eating a waffle right now, I would totally prefer it covered in whipped cream and chocolate chips! :rotfl2:

Can't believe willow picked AK for that day--I would have been all "ok, but are you sure you don't want to go to magic kingdom one last time?" ;) I always have fun at AK, but I would never think to do it more than one day. Can't wait to hear about it!
On our last trip, we started out at MK on our last day, and before I knew it, Willow was dragging us away to DHS. :confused3 Luckily, we had had two full MK days, and we really had had so much fun at AK - I didn't mind. :thumbsup2

Darn! Thought I'd caught up AND commented... guess not. Bad Brenda! :rolleyes1
Hi Brenda! Welcome! I am still so impressed that you read through the whole thing!

Your post Jiko evening with the Character Spot guys sounds great. At least no odd-ball character interactions like your thug one.
It was definitely a fun meet. And it was good to give Pluto a chance to redeem himself. ;)

Ha ha!! Fears of a shark in the pool - I can completely understand that. I thought that when I was little and Jaws was all the rage.
My brother and I did a lot of lake swimming as kids - I can remember us staring down at our legs in the water and freaking out because it looked straight out of Jaws! DD hasn't seen Jaws yet, so I don't know where her weird (albeit brief - thank goodness) shark obsession originated.

I just read your Cape May dining review as well.... sounds like a great character meal despite not being that hungry. Minnie's signature looks like she had a shaky hand. :)
Ha! I hadn't noticed the signature, but you are totally right!

Sounds like the day is off to a good start since you are ready to go to AK so early. :thumbsup2
More about our last day coming up VERY soon! :thumbsup2

I have always wanted to try Cape May. I love the characters in their beach wear. Looks like lots of fun. I think it is so funny that Willow asked Minnie where the bathroom was. She is adorable!
I about died when she asked about the bathroom! :rotfl2:

You should give CMC a try - it's a lot of fun. If you stay at an Epcot resort especially, it is a wonderful choice.

Isn't Cape May fun? It seems so more laid back than the rest of the characters meals. But, I agree, I wouldn't go unless I was staying at one of the Epcot resorts.
::yes:: We really enjoyed how laid-back it was. And it was nice to be somewhere that wasn't super-crowded for a change! If we're at an Epcot resort in the future, we would definitely do it again.

Did you make Willow's Pocohontas dress too? :worship: That is seriously too cute! With a matching headband too!
No, I didn't make that one. :( It was a Disneystore.com purchase. ;) Of course, after I got it, I realized I probably could have just made one!

Yep - it was a great way to start our last day. If Chip 'n' Dale had been there, we would have been over the moon!

I think cruising after a week at the parks would be wonderful!
It was fantastic! Certainly not something I could afford to do every year by any means :rotfl2:, but if I could, I sure would!

Seriously? We Love AK Now?

Somehow we managed to get to AK at 8:50.

I rented a stroller again - yep, I totally did. :teeth: And we headed straight for Everest! :woohoo:

We quickly grabbed a set of FPs and then headed to the ride. Where we realized that the ride was down. :(

We did meet some very nice young CMs who were all hanging out near the entrance to let everyone know that it was down (see above pic ). One of them talked to Willow about how the yeti had gotten out and was playing somewhere in the park and they couldn’t open until they had found her. This young lady was just lovely - we actually saw her many times this day, and she came over to chat with us every time we saw her. She was wonderful!

We decided to wait around for a little bit to see if the attraction would open up anytime soon.

Eventually, we decided that we would go see if we could meet Dug - remember, on our prior AK day we had managed to meet every character in the park except Dug, Pocahontas and Rafiki. We were on a mission!

I really noticed how awesome AK is this year. I love all the little details!

Look! We actually finally managed to see an ANIMAL at AK! :rotfl2:

We were in luck - Dug was out this time. So we, of course, got in line, and, quick as can be, we were at the front. Willow enjoyed her meet with Dug and Russell.

Up Next: Will the Yeti Let Us Down?

I'm lovin' Dug and Russell!!! How cute are they??!! Did they talk?? The reason I ask is because when we saw Mickey last weekend, he was talking! No lie! I couldn't believe it....kind of weird in a way but fun. The mouth moved and everything. The CMs probably wondered why my sister and I were staring at Mickey but we were in complete awe. You probably already knew that  Since I haven't been on the Boards in ages I'm a little behind on things ;) Anyway, didn't mean to ramble on about Mickey..... Glad Willow didn't get upset about not riding....or did she  ??? How strange for it to be down first thing in the morning. Nice to hear you like AK now. It's still my least favorite park, but maybe in June I'll change my mind like you :thumbsup2

I'll be waiting for more popcorn::
Heather

We are big fans of AK! Especially Olivia! She loves riding Everest and if we could we would continue to ride it until it was time to go eat, sleep or use the bathroom.

Love Willow's dress! I want to make Olivia some dresses for next time we're at Disney World but don't know where to get started as far as patterns go. And as for Cape May, Jason my hubby loves that place for dinner but me not so much. I can be picky if I want to be and that's one place I'm not a big fan of. Maybe I can get him to try the breakfast instead. :)

We totally changed our opinion of AK this time around too! We took the time to really look around and AK is really something! Willow looks fabulous as always.

We loved AK -- all those little details are just amazing!

Hope the Yeti is back up and running! :surfweb:

OMG, Heather! I cannot imagine what a shock it would be to go in to meet Mickey and not know in advance that he was now talking! :scared1: :rotfl2: Willow and I saw a video of the new talking Mickey a while back - looked pretty cool. I need to find out if he is talking at DLR now. :scratchin

We are big fans of AK! Especially Olivia! She loves riding Everest and if we could we would continue to ride it until it was time to go eat, sleep or use the bathroom.
 Yep - that's pretty much exactly how Willow felt about EE!

Love Willow's dress! I want to make Olivia some dresses for next time we're at Disney World but don't know where to get started as far as patterns go. There are actually a lot of princess dress patterns available from the regular pattern makers (I have seen cinderella, snow, tiana, etc.). I have only made one - and that was just for fun here at home since it was one of the first things I ever made. Willow has requested a few other costume-type things, so if I ever fulfill all her other orders, I may get to those.

Definitely try CMC for breakfast - pretty standard fare, and very good character interaction :thumbsup2

We totally changed our opinion of AK this time around too! We took the time to really look around and AK is really something! Willow looks fabulous as always.
Isn't that funny? I wonder if it was just that it was so crowded elsewhere that it felt more relaxed there? :confused3 I know a large part of it was Willow being tall enough to ride EE.

We loved AK -- all those little details are just amazing!

Hope the Yeti is back up and running! :surfweb:
It is a beautiful park, isn't it???

More on the Yeti coming up soon! ;)

I laughed out loud at the shark in the quiet pool! She is too funny!

We had a different experience at Cape May but I'm not there yet in my TR. Not BAD....just...different.... Although I will say that we had a HUGE buffet selection! There were so many different things out!

I love love love AK! Im so glad Willow picked it as your last day park! And she got to meet Dug! I wonder if those last three missing characters were the reason she picked going back there? :scratchin

Willow is just TOO CUTE!

We love AK, too. I almost skipped it our first trip because I thought... I can go to a zoo without going all the way to FL. Thank goodness I changed my mind. :thumbsup2 Can't wait to hear how the rest of your day went and I hope they contained the Yeti for you guys. :)

I am sooo glad it sounds like you guys enjoyed the AK. It is one of our favorite parks. We didn't care for it the first time we went but, the second time everything changed. I think we just slowed down and soaked it all in. I love all of Willow's outfits. She is too cute! I love Up!! My brother and sister met them this summer and yes my brother knew the entire Wilderness Explorers call, he's totally an adult. :)

Just found your TR and DR! I mostly lurk on the boards but just had to thank you. I didn't know that Eyore isn't doing meet and greats anymore. So I switched our ADRs around so I could fit CP in on our MK day.

We are going in March but only get one day in each park due to military 4 day tickets. We are also going to universal two days and hanging with some friends for a least one day.

My husband was mobilized with a reserve unit out of Orlando in 2009 and we made our first trip to WDW in 2010. Then he took an active duty slot with this same unit for 6 months so we got to come for fall and winter break to stay with him and go back in 2011 twice (got to be in MK on Christmas day that year!)

We live in Phoenix so usually head to DLR as it is easier for us to get there. Wish I could convince my husband on the AP to DLR but we still get the military tickets at such a discount that it works as long as they are available.

Your daughter is adorable - I wanted a girl but am blessed with my son who is now 13 and taller than both myself or my husband!

I am excited to read your review of the Fantasy as we are going next year. We have to travel during Spring Break now that my son is entering high school, no more missing school! Can't do summer with Boy Scouts, sports, and Army commitments.

We do Ohana for Lilo and Stitch (my favs) and GG for Chip and Dale (son's fav) every trip. I love character meals so don't have to stand in line at the parks as much! Also love Tusker House for Breakfast!

Thanks for the great food reviews!

I laughed out loud at the shark in the quiet pool! She is too funny!
For a period of time, she was concerned that there would be sharks in the YMCA pool where she does her swim lesson. :confused3 I seem to have convinced her that there is just no way for a shark to make its way to our town, through the front doors of the YMCA and into their pool. :rotfl2:

We had a different experience at Cape May but I'm not there yet in my TR. Not BAD....just...different.... Although I will say that we had a HUGE buffet selection! There were so many different things out!
How bizarre!! Maybe I was just so full that I couldn't register the variety of food??? It's certainly possible! :rotfl2:

I love love love AK! Im so glad Willow picked it as your last day park! And she got to meet Dug! I wonder if those last three missing characters were the reason she picked going back there? :scratchin
I think the draw of those last three characters and EE really had a lot to do with it. ;) Also, we really did just have such a great day together there; I'm sure she, like I, was hoping for that again. :thumbsup2

Willow is just TOO CUTE!
Awww - thanks so much!

We love AK, too. I almost skipped it our first trip because I thought... I can go to a zoo without going all the way to FL. Thank goodness I changed my mind. :thumbsup2 Can't wait to hear how the rest of your day went and I hope they contained the Yeti for you guys. :)
I am so excited to be a member of the AK Fan Club now! I can't believe how much we enjoyed it this trip.

Wasn't that cute about the yeti being out in the park playing around? Clever CMs. ;)

I am sooo glad it sounds like you guys enjoyed the AK. It is one of our favorite parks. We didn't care for it the first time we went but, the second time everything changed. That's us exactly - AK was always a half-day park for us. But we just really had a great time there this year. I think the key is to take it slow - it's easier to do that there since it's not so jam-packed with ride attractions. That was what we didn't like about it before; but I think maybe we "get it" now.

We just watched Up again last night. What a great movie! I'm so glad Russell and Dug are regulars at AK now. I really want to try the Wilderness Explorers game thing that they have at AK next time.

Just found your TR and DR! I mostly lurk on the boards but just had to thank you. I didn't know that Eyore isn't doing meet and greats anymore. So I switched our ADRs around so I could fit CP in on our MK day.
Welcome! I'm so glad you decided to de-lurk  and post a comment. And I am SO glad that I actually provided you with some useful information - who wants to miss Eeyore??? I hope you will continue to read along and join in. :thumbsup2

We are going in March but only get one day in each park due to military 4 day tickets. We are also going to universal two days and hanging with some friends for a least one day.
That sounds like a wonderful vacation! We have not done Universal yet - I am waiting until Willow is taller. She got the Tobey Macguire Spider-Man movie for Christmas though and is now obsessed. So I know our Universal time is coming; still going to wait until she has been introduced to HP. ;) I hope you have an amazing time!!!

My husband was mobilized with a reserve unit out of Orlando in 2009 and we made our first trip to WDW in 2010. Thank your husband for his service. What branch of the military is he? I am a civilian employee with DOA/USACE. :thumbsup2

It's great that you two were able to get to know WDW like that. I can't imagine Christmas there - I know it's crazy-crowded and everything, but it must be very special.

We live in Phoenix so usually head to DLR as it is easier for us to get there. Wish I could convince my husband on the AP to DLR but we still get the military tickets at such a discount that it works as long as they are available.
Oh, yeah, DLR is definitely easier for you too. I'm so excited to be heading there in a coupe of weeks! But I kind of can't believe how fast it's come up! :scared1:

Your daughter is adorable - I wanted a girl but am blessed with my son who is now 13 and taller than both myself or my husband!
Awww - thanks! Does your son still love Disney? I'm hoping Willow will love it her whole life - someday, I hope we go together with her children. :lovestruc

I am excited to read your review of the Fantasy as we are going next year. We have to travel during Spring Break now that my son is entering high school, no more missing school! Can't do summer with Boy Scouts, sports, and Army commitments.
:woohoo: You are going to LOVE the Fantasy!!! Have you ever cruised with DCL before? If not, you are in for a HUGE treat! I am so excited to start the DCL portion of this report, which will be happening very soon!

We do Ohana for Lilo and Stitch (my favs) and GG for Chip and Dale (son's fav) every trip. I love character meals so don't have to stand in line at the parks as much! Also love Tusker House for Breakfast!
As you have probably noticed, we are big fans of character meals AND standing in character lines. :rotfl2: I can't believe that we hadn't done these three meals before - we will definitely do GG and TH again - probably every trip - and once we recover from the trauma of Thug Pluto, we will likely try 'Ohana again because I love that it's not a buffet.

Thanks for the great food reviews!
You are so welcome! Thank YOU for reading them!

Will the Yeti Let Us Down?

After finally meeting Dug, we, of course, headed back to EE. It was still down. We decided to wait though.

We witnessed some less-than-nice guests getting pretty nasty with the nice CMs out front - as though it was their fault that the ride was down. :confused3 Anyway, at about 9:50, the ride was finally up and running! :woohoo: People rushed the line, and there was much rudeness, but we made it through the queue. I’m pretty sure we were the last two people on the first train of the day - there were a lot of people who pushed past us in the chaos of the start of the line. We didn’t really care - it took us less than 5 minutes to get on the train.

Obviously, we had a great time!! (And we both got the memo on our planned pose this time.)

When we exited the ride, the posted wait time was 15 minutes. So, you know exactly what we did - turned around and got in line again. And it was nowhere near a 15-minute wait. Willow was doing her best yeti poses as we basically skipped along the queue.

Yeti princess, maybe? :confused3

Not sure what we were going for here - I think I thought scared, and Willow clearly thought something else.

Up Next: Dinos, Yetis, and Ice Cream!

Guess they found the Yeti that was roaming the park ;) How exciting that you got to do EE twice!!!! Yay for Willow:cool1: Faith is finally tall enough to ride EE, so needless to say she's one happy little girl. Unfortunately, those rides don't agree with me anymore. Not sure what's happened :upsidedow The older I get, the worse I feel when I get off one of those things:laughing: Usually I'll ride something like that once then let hubby and son pick up my slack. And so not surprised about the rude people....broken down rides bring out the worst.

On a different note....how's y'alls weather? Crazy cold here for South Georgia. Of course "cold" is subjective depending on where you live ;) My sister in CT said it was -12 yesterday and snow....just doesn't sound like much fun to me.

Have a great weekend!
Heather
