Girl, it's true!! I have worked with kids at church so long, I have a good-kid-radar!! Ha!!!!

what is the name/author of that Guide to the Magic book? I tried to pull it up just using that and i can't find it. Thanks!!

Hey Meghan

I'm catching up!

I love the Sci Fi pics- never been but I'm hoping we eat there on our next trip, possibly for my DH's bday.

And I have to say I definitely feel the same about DVC...someday I WILL be a part of it too!

I'm a little jealous of all the decorating they had up for the What Will You Celebrate theme. I wish it would have been up in Jan. It was a little disappointing that my dh's bday and I felt so bad they forgot that I asked for (and paid for) the little celebration cupcake and centerpiece at Chef Mickey's. Perhaps this Jan they'll leave up the decorations and he can celebrate this next bday a little better.

Oh and I LOVE all the photopass borders! I SOOOOO wish they had those in Jan!!!!! The confetti one is so fun!!!!

They have their own website : guidetothemagic.com and it's also available on amazon.

Thanks for the compliments. We really liked Sci-Fi and will definately go back. I loved being able to see all of the "What Will You Celebrate" decorations this time around. I wish it would have been up sooner though. The photopass borders are awesome too. So much to choose from!

Thank you!!!!

You're welcome!!!

Just wanted to tell all of you something: we got a new little kitten today! We already have 2 cats, but we just couldn't resist this little guy. Let me tell you the kind of long story.

Our local SPCA got over 100 cats turned in during a 28 hour period. So, their solution was to lower or eliminate the adoption fee. For cats 21 weeks or older, the adoption fee was completely waived and cats younger than 21 weeks were only $25. We went to the SPCA Friday evening, but they were closing in 15 minutes. We looked around quickly and noticed that you could not go into the kitten room until the next day. So, we arrived at the SPCA around 10:15 yesterday morning. It was a complete zoo! They had opened at 10am and it was sheer madness. Before you can even hold a cat, you need a pre-approval card. We put our name on the list, but we were way at the bottom of a very long list. We found a cat we really liked, but before we were even pre-approved, the cat got adopted. We were sad, but it was ok. By this time, there were only about 2 or 3 cats left. It was ridiculous!!! We decided to leave before our name was called, but we took the list of all of their off-site locations.

We went to lunch and then decided to head over to PetSmart (they have SPCA cats there). Again, we found one we really liked but we still needed the pre-approval card. Well, we went back to the SPCA (it had really cleared out) and we quickly got our card. We got back to PetSmart and our little cutie was still there. But...not for long. An employee put her in a cage and told us she just got adopted. Bummer! We had to head back home to get Madison ready for her soccer game at this time, but we didn't want to give up.

After her game, we went to Petco, but they didn't have any cats there that day. Before we went on more of a wild goose chase, we called ahead to a few other PetSmarts. By the time we got to another one, all the SPCA cats that had been there were gone. However, there were other cats there that are taken care of by a different organization. There were quite a few kittens and we just fell in love with one of them. He was so playful and such a sweetie. You can't fill anything out for them at the store, so we had to go home and call the organiztion from our home phone.

I left a message and then we went for a walk. We talked about names that we could give him, but we didn't come up with anything. After we had been home for awhile, I got a phone call from the organization! They do a little interview over the phone and the woman must have really liked us. She told me that she had turned down quite a few people that were interested in this particular kitten! Wow! She told us his whole back story (him and his brother were orphaned, but a momma cat who had lost her kittens to a fox nursed the two of them and took them in like her own) and I told her about our current kitties. She then asked if I could pick him up the next day! Of course! So, we picked him today at noon.

We let him explore the house while our other cats stayed in our office with their litter box and food & water. He was a little scared of everything at first, but now he's just fine. When we introduced our other cats...it was a little crazy. Mocha (our 4 yr old girl) hissed at him and ran away (same reaction she had when we got our 2nd cat). Motown (our 2 yr old boy) just kept backing away and made some moaning type noises. He did hiss at the kitten once, but at least he never ran away. He keeps getting closer to him which is nice. Mocha has come downstairs a few times, but she always just hisses and runs back upstairs. It took her awhile to adjust to Motown, but now they're just fine. Oh! I forgot to tell your our little guys name. We decided to keep the name that was given to him because it's cute and unique:McTavish! His brother was named McFuzz because his hair was a bit longer and fuzzier. He is a gray tabby and just so cute. All of our cats are domestic shorthairs and our other 2 cats are tan tabbys. Yes, all of our cats have "M" names, but we didn't do that on purpose. I promise! I'll be sure to post pictures once I take some on my camera (I've only taken cell phone pics so far).

I'm actually very happy we ended up having to pay an adoption fee for our kitty. I know that the SPCA had an overabundance of cats, but I don't think dropping the adoption fee was a good idea. I overheard many volunteers talking to people at the counter (not on purpose, they were talking loud). Many people that were there had surrendered their previous cats to the SPCA and were now wanted to get different ones. That is greatly frowned upon. I think most people were there because they heard the words "free" and jumped on the opportunity. Usually, kittens are $100 and older cats are $85. That's really not a lot of money. They come with their shots and are spayed or neutered. Sorry about my rant, I just want all animals to have a safe, happy and healthy home.

Thanks for reading my very long and sometimes complicated story!

Our humane society did the SAME thing this weekend. No fee at all. I kept thinking about all the kitties who were going to end up in bad homes because people would hear the word "free" and would run up there!

Glad that you got a cute little guy...you'll have to share pics of your new furbaby!

I'm so afraid that a month or two from now, a lot of those people will be surrendering their cats back to the SPCA because they don't want them anymore. A woman at PetSmart told me a story from yesterday. A lady and her 2 kids wanted one of the SPCA cats at PetSmart. The employee told her that that particular cat didn't do well with kids, but the lady didn't care. She just insisted on having that cat. Why? Just because it's free??? Just ridiculous.

I could really go for a CM breakfast right now! It looks sooo good! :)

That's cool about the birthday photopass card, I've never seen that before.

Wow, that's a lot of travelling for your new kitty! I'm sure he makes an excellent addition to your family! Hopefully he'll be a good kitty! :)

Aw how exciting about a new kitten!! I'm super jealous!! I had 4 cats and a puppy and had to get rid of all them this year, due to a temporary parents separation and all of us moving and not being able to have them all. 2 cats and the puppy went to 3 different family friends and the other 2 cats went together to someone on craigslist. These cats were seriously like Simba and Nala...so in love!! The girl one was such a cuddler and the boy one was sweet but just not really into being cuddly with people, ya know? Anyway, a little while after that, we saw them re-list the boy cat on craigslist. :sad2: He is an orange tabby and we KNEW it was him because they posted a picture of them together and the girl one is very distinct (calico). We emailed them and said we'd take him back, but they never responded. :sad2: Perhaps they were embarrassed? I just hate that they are seperated and that he had to go to another new home. I would've taken him back!!

Now I want a new kitten but just don't think its right. My son is crawling and he would LOVE to play in a litterbox I'm sure. He gets into everything. I really have no where to put it that he couldn't get into. Since its just the two of us, he plays in the bathroom while I get ready (he likes to push my shampoo bottles into the tub or play with those springy door stop things.) So I just don't think a kitten is in the cards right now.

Hopefully when he's a little older I can get him a puppy or we'll get a cat.

Sorry that got really long!! Animals have just been on my mind a lot lately!!

The kitten is such a lover boy! He slept with me all night last night. Our 2 other cats are still feeling him out. Lots of hissing going on right now, but the kitten doesn't seem to care!

Congrats on the new kitty, glad everyone is doing well with him!!!!:goodvibes

He just adores laying down with Madison. They are so cute together! We're making sure that we give our other cats a lot of attention right now too. We don't want them to get jealous.

I'm so sorry to hear about all of your animals. I wonder why they wouldn't ask you if you wanted your one kitty back. So strange. We got our first cat when Madison was finally potty trained. It was kind of like her reward. I didn't want to have to be changing diapers and cleaning a litter box. No thank you! For our two older cats, we have an all enclosed littler box. There is a swinging door on it and it's great. Everything stays nicely contained inside!

Congrats on the new kitty - love the name too!

Yeah I don't know why they didn't offer him back to us first and also after we asked.

I will probably wait until Landon is potty-trained. Cleaning a litterbox does not sound very fun right now on top of everything else!!

It feels so strange though...this is my first time in my life without a pet!

Thanks! It's quite an original name and we love it.

Litter boxes are no fun to take care of (it's my DH's job!), especially when you have a little one. When I was in 6th grade we got a dog and we named her Belle (we've always been a Disney family). She got put to sleep last October, but she was 15 years old. Back in May, my parents and younger sis got a new dog. He's very cute!

Congratulations on your new kitty!

Sometimes I think I'd like to get another cat, because we had the BEST cat in the world, but then I remember how often we go away and how lonely he used to get when we went away. It wouldn't be fair to the cat.

Enjoy your new kitty!

I needed to get all caught up, I"m here and back from my weekend trip!!

I loved the Mickey Balloons as well..I asked if we could sit upfront too and were told they don't do that anymore. Boo HOO! But i completely understand considering the accident and all.

Great photos from Chef Mickeys, the food looks delicious. I also love the birthday photopass card!! That's so sweet!!

How are things going with the new kitty?

Congrats on the kitty!! Dbf's fam just adopted two from this woman who works at a shelter. They were found in a dumpster behind a KFC:sad2: This is not the first time kittens were found there, either.
Anyway, the family got to take them because they were the only ones who would adopt both. They're brothers, and tabbys, like the cat they already have, Ike. Ike took a little while to get used to them, but he'll playfully swat at them now (after 3 weeks). He's six and doesn't have anyone to play with, so we think the kittens will bring out a playful side. (And hopefully lose some weight!!)
The new kittens are Benjamin and Bones, the former for Franklin and the latter for the Star Trek character. DBF has named all the cats for the family, after different historical figures. He's a bit of a history/science fiction nerd!

Meghan -- Congratulations on your new little addition, we are a kitty family, too!

I just had to respond to this post because we adopted two boy kitties 16 years ago (we lost one last year over Labor Day), and their names are Worf and Gecko. Gecko's full name was Gordon Gecko -- dh named him after the character in Wall Street -- remember, played by Michael Douglas? You all may be too young :rolleyes1. I named Worf, and we affectionately will call him Worfiedoodles, hence my screen name.

I am a total history sci/fi nerd -- I have two degrees in history, and I am a Trekker, STG and BSG fan -- plus I have read Orson Scott Card and The Dune series (among others) voraciously!
