it was interesting to me-once california instituted the "maxiumum family grant" regulation (except in very rare circumstances-additional children born to a woman on public assistance resulted in zero increase cash wise) there was a tremendouse decrease in the number of children born to what could be best described as "career" public assistance recipient women (and an increase in those that came forward and requested more permanant means of birth control).

I love that regulation!! There is no reason why people on welfare should be having more children that they can not afford and expect other people to support them! I actually think they should start taking money AWAY from them for every child they have on welfare...bet they would stop having them then!
Years ago I knew someone that would keep having kids so she could stay on welfare and wouldn't have to go out to work and earn her money!

Glad to hear some people in gov't. are using their heads.
I lived in CA a while ago, and couldn't figure out why my
friends (all of us were low-very low income) wouldn't
marry their live-in boyfriends.
Took me a while, but I finally got it - if they were married
their welfare husbands would have to work,
and they'd lose most of their benefits!

Personally I don't think sterilization is the key. Life in jail is.
