Parts 1 - 4 are on the Disney Trip Reports Forum. Part 6 will be on the Cruise Forum!
Family: DH40, DW40 (me), DD11--thrill rider, DS10--non-thrill rider but loves Spiderman-anything, DS8--tentative rider, DS7--just had his birthday during trip.
This trip was in December 2003. Yes, this trip report is very late!
We went in early December and stayed at HIFS. The Universal/IOA portion was Sat., Dec. 13. Let me say up front that we set low goals for ourselves at Universal. We knew we were going on a Saturday and only had one day to try to do two parks. We knew we were crazy. We chose about four rides we REALLY wanted to do and said if we got those in, we would be happy. The rest--if any--would be gravy. We wanted to do Spiderman, Jimmy Neutron, Shrek and Terminator2.
It was almost eerie how few people were at Universal. We got there before opening. After a slight glitch getting Express passes (that we ended up not really needing), we were off! We rode Jimmy Neutron and Shrek, then on to Spiderman. Spiderman was wonderful. It was by far the best ride I have ever been on. I was amazed how seamless it was. I couldn't figure out where I was! It was visually amazing and created a "real feel" to being in a comic book or cartoon. DS10--the Spiderman freak--got his picture taken with Spiderman while DH and DD rode the Hulk. We donned ponchos and rode Popeye & Bruno's Bilge Raft Ride. We also rode Jaws and Earthquake. The kids loved climbing on teh playgrounds. We also rode Terminator 2, Poseidon's Fury (what a weird experience), and Cat in the Hat. The Cat in the Hat was a huge hit with the kids. We rode it 2 or 3 times. DH, DD and I did Jurassic Park River Adventure in shifts while the boys had water battles in the playground. DD and I rode Dueling Dragons. I loved it. It was so smooth. DD closed her eyes the whole time.
We couldn't believe how much we got in. The crowds were non-existent until after dinner time. We left before the mass exodus so we could pack for our cruise departure!
I REALLY loved Whoville at Christmas. Complete with snow. It felt like I was in the Grinch cartoon. The cartoon lands in IOA were so amazing. Even the landscaping was well-done.
We had a great time at Universal and IOA. Spiderman is truly amazing!
