Heart monitors on a plane

I am a seasoned flyer, especially in the summer when I am on a plane twice a week to attend DCI shows but I have a situation where I am perplexed and wondered if anyone else has had any experience with the same. I know I am putting the cart before the horse here and I will talk to the Dr this afternoon when he gets "hooked up". I wanted to know if anyone can think of any other questions we need to ask.

My husband goes in to asymptomatic afib and the cardiologist wants him to wear a 10 lead monitor for 1 month beginning today. We are flying on Friday and Monday to Orlando for a DCI show and then on to Murfreesboro for a show there. What does he do when he goes through security?

Also, I read on the Citrus Bowl web site that security is tight and now I wonder if he will even be allowed access if he looks the way he does with monitors and leads and wires all over his body.

Any thoughts?

He should carry a LEGIBLE doctor's note that explains what the equipment is, and also be prepared for a more detailed security scan in case they insist on it. It would be a good idea for him to tell them ahead of time that he is wearing a non-removable medical device, then hand over the note.

All this of course presumes that his doctor gives him permission to fly whilst wearing the device.

Here in Philly all you have to do is alert them to the medical device and they will walk you through security after a personal pat down. A note is a very good idea. Make sure and ask for a "guy" security person if it makes your DH feel better. You are able to ask. My Mom always has to go through that way(she always ask for a "gal") and we took our infant daughter as well on a heart monitor on several flights and it was same procedure each time.
