Starting 10/1, they will not be mailing out physical certs for the rewards in increments of 10. They will be issuing a credit card type card (which you can actually pick up in WDW) and they will transfer all rewards into it, to be used as soon as the reward card is activated. This is in the testing stage now. I am not sure how it will work for the DS, but for DW, you will be able to pick up the empty card by showing your Disney Visa and ID. The WDW CM at Guest Services (at DTD) will call Bank One and have your rewards (no matter how many) transferred to the card right then. I heard its a cute card, also! You can spend as many as you want at one time and not forfeit any change. Sounds great to me, but...

We are leaving for FL 10/7. If this new system doesn't take off, we will miss out on using these $$ if I don't order them soon. They will never get mailed to me in time if I call 10/1 and find out the above is not implemented. Bank One rep seemed pretty confident this was going to happen. What should I do?

I'm not sure I like the idea of having to go to DTD to get that card. What if it doesn't fit into my plans until later in my stay? I'd rather not have to trek all the way to DTD just to retrieve my Dream Dollars.

If I were you, since your stay will be so close to the time that they are instituting this change, I would order my Disney Dream Dollars now and have them in hand for my trip. It's been my experience that one hand does not know what the other is doing with regards to Disney and BankOne. You're liable to get to WDW and find that no one knows what you're talking about! Then you'll have no way to redeem those hard-earned Dream Dollars. In my book, it's better to be safe than sorry.

1) My trip is not for another month, don't want to order $, then trip gets cancelled (very unlikely, but....) and I'm stuck with rewards I can't use.
2) I will only be able to get 80 reward dollars at this point. There are 83 on my account right now, but you need to order in increments of 10. If I wait, I can also get the rewards from my 9/19 statement, which will hopefully be another 15-20 once I pay my DW room off.

I can always use them at the DS if I can't order them in time for the trip, it just feels more magical for me to use the rewards for DW. Still not convinced either way, though...

Why not go ahead and order the ones you can now, and then when you get there empty out whetever else you have earned in the account onto a card. I like the idea of a card, it seems so much easier to keep up with. Do you think they would issue more than one for an account? The Dream Dollars are to be the kids spending money and I would want each to have a card of their own.:)

Let me see if I understand this. You do not have to have a certain amount of rewards to redeem them. I thought I read you needed 30 rewards. We will be going in Dec. and wanted to get my not sure how many rewards I have but I know it is not more than 30.

HELP

I thought you had to have a certain number of $ for your first order. I'm not sure if this is going to change 10/1 as well, the rep just said you can get the entire balance transferred onto the card, not just 10./increments, and you don't need to worry about not getting change back for a purchase under 10.

I think when they go to the cards, it's a minimum of 20 the first time you redeem and a minimum of 10 each time after that (but anything 10 or over, it doesn't have to be increments of 10 anymore).

If they won't issue more than one card, just buy them some DD with "your" money and use the DWD to pay for soemthing else like a meal or the room. It all works out the same that way :)

Great idea ducklite! I have already ordered some of the certificates in amounts of $10 and they can use those and I'll just use what's left on the card. They always like the Disney Dollars too.:)

Wouldn't it be easier for them to just mail out a card when you request your first redemption and then keep putting the balance on the card?

That would be too easy... ;)

I got the certificates that I ordered last week on Sat. They are really pretty! They have a shiny red and gold boarder with Mickey at the corners! The expiration date is 12/31/04. I am getting excited!:D

I'm surprised that this is what you were told. I ordered mine today (9-1-03) and was told that I would receive vouchers in $10 increments to use at the parks and a gift certificate like card if I was using it at the Disney Store. We are going to WDW in Oct so I wanted the vouchers. I was told nothing about a card or picking it up.
