at Pop century and at the parks?? Any ideas? What are some things I can eat at Pop Century for breakfast that aren't just loaded with calories? I guess I can eat oatmeal. Any other ideas? What about in the parks? Let me hear your tips!!!

I am always couting calories, so I'd be happy to give some suggestions:

There are boxed cereals and milk so you can count your calories. Fresh fruit is always available. Salads are too.

Avoid ordering fries at counter service and get the apples or carrots instead.

Minnie's ice fruit bar is only 100 calories and sold at the parks at the icecream carts.

In the Magic Kingdom, I get a baked potatoe (don't add the sour cream that they give ) and they have fruit, too, at the outside "market" across from the Riverboat. You can take it into the side door of the Columbia Harbor House restaurant for airconditioning, and if your family wants to eat in there.

At counter service restaurants, I get turkey or chicken sandwiches on wheat bread and use mustard instead of mayo.

My splurges are chocolate covered bananas  and jalopeno stuffed hot pretzels:thumbsup2 and Dole Whips:) , but I make them a "meal".

There are healthy choices in every park and you just have to use common sense and not get wrapped up in the thought that "I'm on vacation, so I'm going to eat whatever".

Check out the menus on Allearsnet.com.

Avoid funnel cakes and all the obvious high calorie items. Have someone in your party get something yummy and take one bite of it.

LOL, one bite. I have a ton of respect for you if you can only take one bite, I know I personally cant. One bite usually turns into four or five. But usually DW and I will try to split something if we know it is really bad.

The fruit is a great idea, I know that in the pop century resort, and probably most other resorts, they have a fruit/cheese tray which is really good.

We are always watching our wait since years past have had problems. Took allot of exercise and dieting to get back to our desired weight. Now we diet all week, off the diet on the weekends, but senseible. While on vacation, we still diet, eating one favorite food per day. This has worked for us the past several trips. Good Luck and enjoy

Our approach is a little different. I wear a pedometer, and we set a goal for the day--for us it is 15 miles. We eat sensibly--share lunch--then we have a regular dinner with dessert. No 15 miles--no dessert. It works for us--I should say me, my DH can eat anything he wants. Last trip I lost 3 pounds.

I'm bringing my mother along with us on our next trip (in 5 days!) and she is very strict with her diet. She maintains a very low fat diet for health reasons. We ended up at Coronado Springs Resort because it seems like their counter service place has more low fat and made to order stuff than some of the others. For the rest I spent a lot of time on allears looking at menus and came up with these places for Mom:

MK: Columbia Harbor House-veggie chilli, veggie sandwich (no slaw).
Epcot: Sunshine Seasons and Tangerine Cafe-lots of choices at these two
AK: Flame Tree BBQ-Turkey sandwich and fruit plate
MGM: skipping lunch here

You can order sandwiches a la carte and skip the fries if you choose.
Hope this helps!

Subscribing so I will come back to this to read it again....don't have time right now. We are into counting calories big time, so this was a great one to start!:thumbsup2

At Pop Century, for breakfast you can grab a yogurt and a banana or a box of cereal and skim milk. They also have nutrigrain bars which are great to have with you for snacks.

Pop Century lunch/dinner is a little harder. I usually choose pasta with marinara sauce. No fat, no cholesterol.

In the parks... let's see. There's a stand in Liberty Square that sells fresh fruit. I had some cutup watermelon there that was very tasty. Also, I enjoy the tuna sandwich at the Columbia Harbor House. Sunshine Seasons in The Land at Epcot has a lot of choices. I had a turkey sandwich there that was good.

What you can do to control portion size is to order off the kids menu at CS restaurants. And get the applesauce instead of fries or desert.

And drink a ton of water! :)

My goodness I admire ya'll! I just don't have the will power to cut calories at WDW. I guess I always view my WDW vacation also as a vacation from calorie counting. But I think you will be able to make some wise calorie decision. I have always noticed a low calorie option at most restaurants. Do try to have little treat, it's part of the magic! Hope ya'll have a great time.

I think she meant to say, "Check out the menus right here http://www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/dining/diningmain.cfm on the DISBoards home page"
--oh, er, YES I DID! ;)

You'd be surprised to see how easy it is to walk 15 miles a day at WDW. We do it pretty regularly when we are there. Those steps EVERYWHERE really add up! Waiting on line on a busy day for a popular ride is probably close to a mile right there :)

I started wearing my pedometer on our last trip, and my daughter got embarrassed for me that I had a lump on my belly, so I took it off. I probably walk a lot less now that we don't go so "commando". And I know I walk a lot less in the summer than I do when we go in the cooler months. I still don't know if it would be 15 miles, though.

15 MILES?

now i thought i walk alot at WDW - sometimes the pedometer reads 25,000-30,000 which would be about 8-10miles. But how the heck do you get up to 15 MILES?
