my family often has to eat at fast food places. I know the food is really bad, but is there anything remotely close to low-carb or healthy...maybe the salads??

usually i get chickenburgers ....no mayo of course

are you on? Low-carbing it sounds? there are lots of low-carbers here on WISH to help you out. Which restaraunts???

Good luck, I know you can work this problem out!!

i wouldnt consider myself on the atkins diet, im only 14 but i know enought that fries are bad! im just trying to eat healthier and exercise more...

i need to know about mcdonalds! what do they serve thats ok to eat????
and burger king...

thanks ohmom!

how about the grilled chicken sandwich? throw away the bun or at least the top bun. Do you like their soup? Sounds to me like you are more keeping it low-carb without actually following a "diet" which is a good choice. Remember your body needs some carbs as a teenager, maybe someone more knowledgeable about Atkins will chime in here with some guidelines for you.

Salads are a good choice, opt for a grilled chicken one to work in some protein. Try using 1/2 the packet of dressing, I find the whole packet is usually too much! Your tastes will adjust if you give it time. Pay attention to how much better you feel after your new choices at McDs vs. in the past eating a value meal:eek:

I don't really go to BK too much, I know that have three new sandwiches out that are a healthier choice, a chicken on a small sub bun. I do like their chicken caesar salad if they still have it.

Good luck!

Any of the hamburgers hold the ketchup, hold the bun are fine for low-carbing. A side salad with their ranch dressing rounds out a meal.

So long as you're just lowering your carbs, you could have the grilled chicken (those being extremely strict would probably avoid them... they're injected with a sugary marinade) sandwich without a bun or the grilled chicken salad.

Mayo is perfectly "legal", so is mustard. Pickles & onions are OK. Cheese is fine, too.

If you're there for breakfast, sausage or bacon and eggs are your best choices. If you have to, get one of the breakfast sandwiches, hold the bun.

You don't need any carbs from white flour buns or fries. All the carbs you need should come from vegetables, low-glycemic fruits, whole grains (including 100% whole wheat, flax, rolled oats...), nuts and dairy products.

Congratulations on taking care of your health while you're young!

Do you go to Culvers? They have a Chicken Cashew salad that's to die for!! :Pinkbounc

I think it's great that you are interested in healthier food and exercise at 14! You have a great attitude!!

Did you know that Burger King and McDonald's both have nutritional info on their sites? You can even customize the menu items (to leave out mayo or whatever) and it will re-calculate the nutrition totals for you. Here are links:

Burger King

McDonald's

Hope this helps!

I printed out copies of the fast-food menu/nutritional guides (for Wendy's, McDonald's, Burger King, Arby's and Subway) and was amazed at just how many calories some foods actually have!!

Before I was diagosed with diabetes (mid-September) I was going to fast-food restaurants 3-4 times per week. Now I allow myself a burger and fries once a month. MUCH better!! :teeth:

I go to Subway a lot more often now, and get one of their "6 grams of fat or less" subs (have half for lunch, half for supper), and sometimes get a Mandarin Chicken Salad from Wendy's.

Good luck making new, and better, fast food choices!! :sunny:

oo thank you so much all!!!!:sunny:

im going to check out the sites as soon as i can

also....my dad is a big workout maniac so i go as often as i can w/ him and hes stays farely fit so i want to be like him, i kinda have some family whom i dont want to look like, if you know what i mean

....guess i kinda have some bad genes, plush a few scars on my stomach which have major amounts of scar tissue around them....

o well....gotta stay positive::yes::

i went to b.k. to day( i know im bad)

and i got a chicken whopper w/ no mayo
med coke
med fries..

1010 calories
240 calories from fat
149 carbs!!

o i feel fat now...:(

 No beating yourself up, ok? The past is, well........past! The thing to do now is to move forward and make a plan for the next time you are in a similar situation! For instance you could have a chicken whopper, salad w/low fat dressing and a diet drink or iced tea next time.

One thing I have found is that I can't give up everything I love ALL the time. Every now and then, I find a way to work SOME of it into my eating plan so I won't feel deprived.

I think you are doing great to be concerned about healthy eating! Keep up the good work! It gets easier with practice! :D

thanks for the encouragement!

next time i go ill get a salad and ice tea or fruit punch
