Healthcare worker discounts?

So quite a few of my co-workers have been bragging about big discounts they're receiving by showing their hospital ID badges. AT&T happens to be a big one apparently, upwards of 20 percent on cell services.

I'm just curious if anyone else in the field has come across those types of discounts? I've heard of nursing ones, but my department isn't comprised of RN or LPN's, so I was a little surprised when I found out they were eligible. Anyone ever hear of broad spectrum hospital discounts? Or could it just be more of a local affiliation with our medical center?

Just wondering. I think I might try and get that AT&T deal, since I already have my cell phone through them. :)

I work for a large nursing home corporation and we recieve a 19% (yes that is 19 not 20) discount on verizon cell phones. I hope that helps.

i'm also in the medical field (not a nurse) and i get a discount with verizon. i'm not sure how much because we use my husband's discount since he works for the federal government (he gets a bigger discount).

There is a site thru our hospital that has discounts. I have never used it. I have used my nursing license to get a discounted Hotel at the Swan before. we also get a govt discount thru verizon from dh who works in the FD. That is nice plus the fact we added on a phone last week and they waived the activation fee and we received a additional discount on the phone at a sweet deal of only $10.00. Other than that I havent really looked into the hospital part of it..

I am a nurse at a local hospital network and we get a discount (all hospital employees) on Verizon cell services. The network uses Verizon for all cell phones they have to give ot staff, so it is a corprate acct.

Other than that I really don't know of any other discounts. Oh...BOrders Books sometimes has Heathcare worker Weekends, show you ID and get % off your total. Not sure of when this is though.

Is your hospital union? I know with the police union there were lots of places that provided a discount through the union website.

Thanks for all your replies :)

No, we're actually not union, the nurses or the staff. We're the biggest employer in the tri-county area, so I'm guessing that's where the local contracts are coming from. I'm gonna have to poke around the intranet home page and see if there's a page listing things, thanks for that suggestion :)

My DH is a firefighter and we get 20% off our AT& T cell bill, it is a union. We also get 50% off a YMCA membership, but they only let so many families in at that price so as you can imagine the waiting list is LONG!!!

State employees and teachers get 15% off their sprint bills here :)

Our hospital also gives a discount for Verizon, Dell, all the area theme parks (not to great but every little bit helps) and a few other local companies
We normally check the hospital news letter or the gift shop to find the latest promotion.

Wow, my DH is a FF in the union. How do you get this rate at AT&T?
