Health insurance question?

My friend's parents will be coming to US and staying with her for 2-3 years. And my friend wants to get health insurance for the parents, just in case. Anyone has any experience on this? Is this similiar situation as job-less person who needs to insure himself?

I believe you can buy health insurance from the insurance company themselves, but it is going to cost a fortune! Even when your employer pays a percentage, it still breaks the bank fot the portion you may have to pay!
