Health insurance for cop's kids up till what age?

DH is NYPD. Just tried to fill a prescription for DD19 (his stepdaughter) and it was denied as they said she was terminated. Found that she is no longer listed as covered on optical and dental as well. Luckily, she is still listed as covered on medical. Do the new laws only apply to medical? Not sure if they just dropped her recently or a long time ago, as we have not used the terminated benefits for her in a while. Does anyone know if cop's kids over 19 are still covered for prescriptions/dental/optical regardless of marital status, address, whether they are a student? Thanks!

Dental and optometry does not continue under the new laws. Is she in school? If so you can usually send in a letter and keep kids on those policies until they are 21 at least. If it has been a LONG time since you used the benefits and she was dropped - you may need to wait for open enrollment to re-add her, depending on the policies of the NYPD.

My dh isnt a police officer but we used used his new vision plan for dd13. I was suprised that the info said up to age 19. I can't find the age limit on my vision. I toothought it was until age 25-26. Mow i need to double check my medical, dental and my vision plans

Every plan will be different but I know that the healthcare act doesn't include vision and dental in its scope of reach. So, it's entirely possible that older children (18 and up) will not be covered for those benefits if they are not in school.

I spoke with a girl last week who had graduated in May. She was upset to learn that her mother's plan no longer covered her because she wasn't a student anymore. If she had planned her dental and eye visits before her graduation, she would have been fine.
