Heads up on Dollar rental

So sorry that you had trouble. We have had great service with Dollar at MCO on 3 different trips in the past 4 years. Sounds like the employee made an error so see what the corporate office can do for you. Good luck!

I am confused. Dollar does not require a credit card at the time of booking. Are you saying they had access to two of your cards when you picked up the vehicle?

That's the part I didn't understand as well. How did the counter agent get the OP's CC info if they were only using the debit card at that point?
 
I don't mean to worry you. Hugs. Thankfully you have had good luck before. I can tell you, our check-in was the biggest comedy of errors and farce imaginable. But it could have just been that employee's incompetence. She should have never run both of our cards but did (unbeknownst to us). I wish you luck!! Our bank will be open in a few minutes ans we'll see what they say.

So you didn't use the Dollar Express, then? I'm thinking of doing that so I can bypass the counter & go straight to the car (I think that's the way it works at MCO). I do hate giving out all that info on the internet, though. I guess they'll get it all eventually, anyway!

I'm hoping that the more automated a process is, the faster & less chance there is for screw-ups like what happened to you. I think your CC company will help you, probably not fast enough, though!
 

As they say it is all in the fine details. If you try to rent a vehcile anywhere with a debit card there are restrictions where the rental company could ask for a credit card as well.

F. Credit Qualifications/requirement: To qualify to rent the DOLLAR vehicle, the renter must present at the time of rental a major credit card or debit card (See Debit Card Usage below) in the renters own name with available credit. A hold will be placed on the renters credit card for the estimated amount of the rental plus 15% or a minimum amount, whichever is greater, as determined by the location where you intend to rent. The hold will be removed at the end of the rental when the final charges are settled. Because the requirements vary by location, please refer to the Local Policies for specific information on credit qualifications and requirements where you intend to rent a DOLLAR vehicle.

G. Debit Card Usage: If the customer presents a debit card at the beginning of rental to qualify to rent, we will perform a debit card check and credit inquiry screening through Equifax Credit Information Services, Inc. This type of inquiry will screen out customers who present a greater driving risk to us, using a standard set of criteria. In the event that a customer's debit card check and credit inquiry fail to meet our debit card criteria, the customer will not be allowed to rent unless they provide a major credit card in their own name. Our debit card policy complies with all applicable U.S. federal and state laws. Debit cards are accepted for payment at the end of rental without a credit inquiry. Debit cards may not be accepted in Canada except for payment at the end of rental. Since credit requirements vary by location, please refer to the Local Policies for specific information on the acceptance and usage of debit cards where you intend to rent a DOLLAR vehicle.
