I thought I'd let you guys know about hurricane Charley in case any of you are heading to Orlando this week. Charley is expected to track across central Florida. They are predicting that it will be a category 2 hurricane when it makes landfall near Naples. I live in Orlando and they are warning us that we should expect 3 to 6 inches of rain and 60 mph winds on Friday. My DD's school told the students today that they would probably not have school on Friday. Sorry to bring bad news to those of you on your way over!

I hope Hurricane Charley does'nt cause to much damage for you guys, thats a lot of rain expected.
I dont think i'd want my children in school either best place for them i think will be at home.
Take Care everyone:grouphug:

Looking at the weather sites online it does look as if Charley may cause trouble for the Gulf Coast and Tampa area :( ... I hope 'he' calms down.

Not only that...... there's Bonnie to contend with as well!

The DIS has the info here.

Keep in in mind that these things can change course on a dime, and do. I'd say anyone in FL ought to be ready.

They are now saying that Charley could swing further west and make landfall near Big Bend toward the Panhandle. That would be great for those of us in Orlando, but not so great for those poor folks to the north. If that happens they will get hit by Bonnie and then Charley. They've already had a lot of rain and are expected widespread flooding.

If it doesn't take the western path, it should pass Orlando just to the west. They are still saying that we could have sustained 40 mph winds with gust to 60 mph. Either way, it looks like a wet Friday and Saturday. It should be out of here by late Saturday afternoon. They are saying that Sunday could be a nice day.

florry, I've not heard anything about Isobel. I don't think there is such a storm. The names go in alphabetical order and they are just on Charley. Sounds like your co-worker is just giving you a hard time.

Thanks for the good wishes everyone!

Florry,

You have no need to worry about Hurricane Isobel. Isobel was the hurricane that hit the Carolina's last year. I am not sure if the name has been retired but it is definitely not included in the list of Atlantic Tropical Storm Names for 2004.

Good luck to all the folks in the area, lets hope Charley weakens a bit before he hits land :)

Alan.

Hurricane Charlie is coming right at us on the west coast of Florida. Everything is closing down for tomorrow around Tampa Bay and one large county is trying to evacuate 380,000. Should hit late afternoon Friday. Good news is its fast moving which is very good news.

For Orlando the only thing it should mean is lots of rain from the outer bands.

I hope everything is OK for you guys :)

This is really scary:scared: How many hurricanes do they get every year? I hope it doesn't cause too much trouble for all of you out there:( I am flying out in 3 weeks and i'm really looking forward to it:Pinkbounc

Disney is closing to day at 1:00. The AKL and waters parks did not open.

Reason is dont know where the storm is going and it has picked up in intensity. Some forcasts have it going over Orland as a cat 1 still.

Im on the west coast and even turned our bathroom into a saferoom. Should be very interesting tonight here.

Thanks for your good thoughts! It is just a sit and wait situation now. Charley is just about to move north of Cuba. Once it hits the open water of the gulf, it will pick up strength due to the warm water. It still looks like it will come ashore around Tampa and then turn to the east due to a cold front. There has been a massive evacuation of the Tampa area. They said there could be a 19 foot storm surge. There are hardly any hotel rooms left in Orlando due to the people evacuated from the coast. Disney will be closing the parks at 1pm today in anticipation of the storm. Universal will close at 2pm. Downtown Disney, Animal Kingdom and the water parks are already closed. They've issue tornado watches for most of the counties south of Orlando at this time. The rain bands will start reaching Florida long before the eye. All of the schools in the greater Orlando area are closed today. They are asking people to stay home starting this afternoon. We are waiting and trying not to get nervous. My 16 year old DD and I just moved to Orlando two months ago from Missouri. This is all new to us. I'll be very sad if my new house gets damaged, but as long as we stay safe I'll manage. Go away Charley!
