We're seeing a basketball game tonight at the Dome, staying overnight & headed to the mall tomorrow. We've never been to the mall there - anything we should be sure to see or do while there? Any good budget tips for dinner out tonight?

I saw online they have something called "Lights on the Lake" for Christmastime. It looks interesting but after leaving the bball game - it will be the opposite direction as our hotel....but if it's highly recommeded, I might convince my husband to take us there. :confused3

Wear orange!! Seriously, you'll wish you had. Stop by ACMoore and pick up a couple of $5 orange tees; at least they'll show under a jacket or hoodie.

I love basketball at the Carrier Dome! The place rocks, and it'll be packed, even for a pre-conference game, especially with Boeheim on his way to win 900 games. Get ready for a great night of basketball, and say a little "hi!" to the Dome for me.

GO ORANGE GO!!

Haven't been back to Syracuse for abt 6-7 years. I remember loving lights on the lake but only if you are the type of folks who like driving around and looking at light displays.

The only thing I can recommend as a must do is eating at dinosaur BBQ. It's can look rough and the wait time could be very long but it's the best BBQ I have ever had. You have to get the salt potatoes. We use to make the 8 hour round trip in 1 day and eat there. Luckily they opened one in NYC a while back abs we don't have to.

Have fun. Love SU basketball games in the dome.

Syracuse girl born and raised! :) Still local in one of the suburbs. DEFINITELY wear orange! The games are really fun - loud and lots of Orange! The Lights on the Lake is best with snow, but I recommend it even though we don't have any right now. It's a yearly tradition for us, and worth the short ride(opposite end of the Parkway from the mall - not really that far from the Dome.)

Best bet for budget meals - Breakfast at Stella's Diner (also right by the mall - within a 1/2 mile) and Dinner - if you are visiting for only the one night, Dinosaur BBQ is a great bet, I also like the Retreat in Liverpool (next to Lights on the Lake) or even just grabbing a slice of pizza (or a whole Pizza) at Varsity Pizza on SU hill (Marshall Street) for a full SU experience!

ENJOY!

Another vote for Dinosaur! Go there every time we see our sophomore dd @ SU :thumbsup2!

BTW, have heard wonderful things about Stella's - also pp please fill me in on The Retreat as we could try it also next time we're in town!

Have Fun - Go Orange!!! -

The Retreat is great! It is very close to the entrance for Lights on the Lake.

Consistently good food and service. Also, at this time of year they are decorated for the holidays!!!! We have never had a bad meal or a bad time there.

(Also, in that same area is alternative to The Dinosaur, called The Limp Lizard. People either prefer one or the other, depending on their taste. There is also Heids - a local icon - known for their hotdogs/red hots and coneys/white hots. Heids is more casual. Relatives used to take a cooler full back to Florida every visit.)
