Can anyone give tell me more about this? I've read a lot of "tips" that say viewing them from the beach is the way to go. If you're visiting from another Disney resort, is it really okay? Do the Poly guests get mad that there are visitors? Is the view/sound really good?
Thank you!

No one gets mad! There is no way to tell who is there for dinner, staying at the resort, another resort or off site! In fact a few times DH and I were on a bench at the end of the pier by ourselves - we were wondering why no one else was out there! Other nights there were bunches of folks - some kids in pjs - the view is great and the music is plenty loud. Get a lapu lapu to go and head to the beach. Or if you prefer a dole whip at Capn Cooks - really its OK! :D

I'm getting ready to stay at the Poly and I've heard a few different things. I have heard that there are a lot of guests that are extremely against resort hopping, meaning taking advantage of another resort's amenities. I've also heard it's not allowed to visit their beach unless you're a guest at that resort. We were staying at the CR for our honeymoon last year and I thought visiting the Poly to watch the fireworks would be fun until I saw that.

I'd call Disney and see what their rules are only because I've heard so many things.

For me, since it is an expensive resort, when I go and want to visit the beach, if I were to find it full to where I couldn't enjoy it and it was because there were a lot of outside guests there, I'd be frustrated.

No one gets mad and yes its really ok! In fact, it gets really crowded. We got there about 45 mins ahead of time but there were no more chairs available by the time Wishes started. The view and sound were both good. Not as good as being at MK, but still good.

The beach at Poly is not an amenity. It's a public area. By that theory, no one would be allowed to eat at another resort's restaurants, use another resort's bathroom, or sit on another resort's bench. What is frowned upon is pool hopping. That is definitely prohibited. If using Poly's beach was prohibited, this board would be up in arms considering how often that is recommended and talked about for Wishes viewing outside the parks.

I use other resorts frequently. I've done the night time viewing at Animal Kingdom Lodge after eating at Boma. I've done the fireworks at the Contemporary after eating at California Grill. I've eaten at half the resorts and browsed their gift shops. I'd like to tour all the resorts at Christmas to see how they are done up. I didn't get a chance last year.

It's fine and it is a public access area so you can go. The only time hotel guests get upset is when someone walks up to the Hawaii Building patios and takes a chair (they are for that room's guests only) or walks up to the window and peers in. And both those do happen. There really are no rules other than respect the hotel's guests and property.

Here's a tip for when you are there. The music is piped in but the speakers are across the path from the beach. The closer you get to the water the poorer the sound quality and the view gets no better.

Last night I made reservations for Spirit of Aloha in September, and the cast member with whom I spoke made a point to suggest I check the park schedule to see if I can head over to the beach to watch Wishes after the show. She knew I'm staying at POR. I think I've only ever heard that the pools are off limits. I'm hoping it works out well, as I've always wanted to watch Wishes from the Poly beach!!!! :cool1:

We are doing the spirit on aloha next month and I'm hoping for the same thing!! Can't wait

Anyone can go sit out there and watch them. Every time we have done this there was barely anyone out there.

We had dinner at the GF and then sat on the beach between the GF and the Poly. We saw a handful of other groups that popped out right when the fireworks started. There is no crowd like on main street, there is plenty of space to see.

It is really nice to watch them and so much more relaxing compared to the mad rush to leave the park after they are done.

Also the pipe the music in so you can hear the music being played in the park while watching them from the poly.

Enjoy!

The Poly beach has a good view of the fireworks. It's pretty straight on to the castle, but further away. They pipe in the music, but it can be hard to hear. No one will get "mad" at you; plenty of folks watch from there that aren't staying at the Poly.
