Hi There!

We are heading to Hilton Head Island for two weeks in July. It is a major road trip for us as we are coming from Massachusetts.

Our kids are 13, 12 and 9.

We are staying Mid-Island and I'd love any recommendations from people who have been there. Any topic?

Bike Rentals? Restaurants? Must sees? Not worth our time or money?

Thanks for any input!:goodvibes

We go to Hilton Head every year(going in a week and a half!) and we stay at the Disney resort at Shelter Cove, which is also mid island.

We always rent bikes, they're probably around $25 for the week.
There is a restaurant guide out all over the place that lists all of the restaurants and has partial menus. Pick one up when you get there.

Definitely without a doubt do not miss Shannon Tanner's shows at the Shelter Cove marina nightly. He sings and plays the guitar, it's a great family time.
Also, go into Sea Pines($5 per car load) and go to Harbor Town and climb the lighthouse..then go have lunch at Salty Dog Cafe.
We also like Scott's Fish Market, Wise Guys and Guiseppe's pizza.
This year I am determined to get over to The Old Oyster Factory which I've heard very good things about.

If you go to the DVC Mousellaneous Board we have a huuuge thread about Hilton Head with lots of tips-lots of stuff about the DVC resort, but also abotu the island in general..

DH and I are going to be there when you are! We were just there over the weekend and are going back when DD goes to camp. :) Staying at Disney too.

Last weekend we ate at San Miguels in Shelter Cove for the first time and really enjoyed it. It is a Mexican restaurant and was really good. A couple of years ago a local suggested Hudson's for seafood and we really like them too. It is locally owned and the seafood is fresh.

Another thing we have done a couple of times is a sunset cruise. We did one on a catamaran and it ended up just being the 4 of us (we took my nephew with us too). We have also done kayaking but may be tough with the ages of your kids.

Just my opinion, that your kids are probably a little old for Shannon Tanner. It IS a great show but it's definately geared toward younger kids. My kids grew up seeing Shannon Tanner each year and I'm sad that they are no longer interested, but I get it.

I agree that going into Sea Pines is great, climb the lighthouse and shop and then head over to Salty Dog for lunch or dinner and shops. It's a HHI classic!

I also second Savannah for a day trip~
A trip to Daufuskie Island is cool too.
There's lots of boating, fishing, nature tours to take too if you are interested in that kind of thing.
Golf and the beach are the biggest draws, with lots of sun and relaxation!

Have a GREAT trip! I'll be in HHI in 2 weeks, I can't wait!:lovestruc

I will see you there!
I agree with the previous poster-Shannon Tanner is geared younger, didn't see that your (OP's)kids were up to 13.
But it's still fun for a night, especially if you have dinner at the marina first and walk over afterwards-my kids are 8 and 10 and are still looking forward to seeing him, but 12 and 13 maybe not so much...

My family did the kayaking and the little power boat tours out of Disney’s resort. We enjoyed both, but the kayaking was amazing. In Broad Creek there are a lot of dolphins and there is nothing like being water level with them.

When my sis and I went, we rented bikes from this place: http://www.aaaridingtigers.com/ If you book ahead of time, they offer a discount. They will also deliver and pick them up for free.

I would ride down to Coligny Plaza in the morning. They have a yummy little bakery and a Rita's Ice - yum!!!

The Old Oyster Factory!! It was fantastic!! :)

We're going to Hilton Head at the end of July so this post was very helpful. Has anyone done any of the Dolphin tours? Is it worth the money?

Some advice - rent bikes, and ride on the beach. BUT, make sure you're riding into the wind at the start of your ride!
