I fly a lot, and I never see it. I hear lots of people sniffling and snorting and spewing. Never a mask.

If you are sick and flying do you wear a mask? I don't think so.
I think most people rationalize with "I'm taking some meds, I'm better and it's not so bad. I'm going.

There were two people on the last flight alone that I've seen wearing a mask (and if you read the super awesome post from @theyearofelan on Twitter yesterday you'd know that "Diane" also wore one!)

Germs are unavoidable to a certain extent.

This is why I take disinfectant wipes. When we get on the plane, I have everyone in my group take one and wipe down their area. It's my way of trying to keep everyone healthy for the trip.

This began after a trip to Disneyland several years ago.
We were on a plane going to DLR and there were other passengers coughing and such.... Toward the end of the week at DLR, my DGD came down with nasty cold. I know she could have picked up the bug from many other places. But the plane was a closed environment, with definite bugs.

Please be considerate of the others around you and take necessary precautions.

Anti-bacterial soaps and wipes do kills bacteria, but they do nothing against viruses. Washing hands can help with that. People wear masks all the time in Japan and I've never understood why it hasn't caught on here.
My MIL had a lung transplant and has a suppressed imune system. She wears a fan thing around her neck when she flies to help purify the air around her. So for some people catching your cold or flu bug is serious.

Hi everyone. Thanks to everyone for all your tips and advice. I have successfully made it to San fransisco for our layover and felt no pain during the flight at all. One of my ears are a little plugged but I am sure that will go away after a while. Thanks again everyone. I knew I could count on the disboards!
