Hi! We're headed to the Poly in August for our honeymoon (except fi doesn't know it yet, the trip is a surprise. We decided that a honey right away would be too expensive so we are putting it off until next year. But we can add aleg onto our flight home for the same amount of frequent flyer miles and with a great hotel rate I am planning a little trip to Disney! FI thinks that we couldn't affwe're going to a friends condo in cocoa beach!)

We aren't going to arrive at the Poly until around 7pm or so. Will all the nice rooms be taken? The reservations agent noted that we will be on our honeymoon, but should we also make a room request?

It can't hurt to make a room request. Just call reservations and have them add your requests to your reservation.

By all means make a room request. Just because you are on your honeymoon, that doesn't necessarily you want something specific or you don't want something specific. Maybe you want to be close to the food area because one of you has to have cold Coke in the monring (I'm speaking from experience here). Maybe you don't care about all that and want to be as far away from other people as possible. Maybe you want first floor so you can walk out to your patio. Maybe you want third floor so no one is over your head.

So yes, if there is something you want to request, request it.

For WDW, keep in mind that the more specific your request, the less likely you'll get it fulfilled. Requesting a certain building is better than requesting a specific room. Requesting an area is better than requesting a building.

Absolutely try the requests but since they're not guaranteed, be prepared for the possibility that you won't get them.
