Headed to the Fort in October! Updated

Well, our family has officially outgrown Disney resorts (without costing us an arm and a leg) so we are headed to the Fort in October this year I booked our trip yesterday and I am one of those Disney planning crazies.... I am so excited to plan this trip because it is full of so many new things for us! My list of questions is ever growing, so here goes:

1: I think we will need a golf cart. Where is the best place to rent one from? Or where should I definitely NOT rent from?

2: How early should I book the golf cart?

3: We are tent camping in a "partial" site. Which partial loop puts us more in the action?

4: Will sites be decorated for Halloween in early October?

5: And now for the serious question.... lol....The 10 piece bucket of chicken with 2 sides and biscuits at Trail's End. How big is this? It seems like a too good to be true deal. That's about how much I would pay for a 10 piece bucket meal outside of Disney....

6. NEW QUESTION! Can I mail packages to myself at the Fort to be picked up when we arrive?

I can't answer all, but I've been very happy renting our cart from Kenny at Tee Time.

As far as outgrowing Disney resorts, I don't mean to steer you away from the Fort, but Port Orleans Riverside can sleep 5. Just a thought. Personally, there's no other place I'd rather stay than the Fort. But we're between RVs, so I've been debating whether I should book a trip to Riverside.

For an extra couple dollars, you can make the 10 piece bucket all-white meat, which makes it 10 regular size breasts, which is a lot of chicken. We got it with mac n cheese and fries for our family of 4, and we had left overs for lunch. It's a great deal.

We were at the fort the second week of October last year and there were tons if sites decorated for Halloween, some people went all out, it was awesome!
We've rented a cart from tee time twice and never had a problem

On the takeout menu, there is an upcharge allowed for all-white meat on the Lone Ranger (the single person meal) but not the Giddyup And Go (or GAG, as it's also known as). My three kids are now adult-sized and having 10 larger pieces of chicken would ease the angst of who gets stuck with the wing or drumstick.

Speaking of the takeout menu, I"ll post the one I got last April. We always get the GAG as our first meal on check-in day.

Oh, I forgot to add that there are two Tent loops, 1500 and 2000. Of the two, 1500 is "closest to the action" as you asked in your original post item #3. It's a relatively small loop (25-30 sites) whereas 2000 has nearly 70 IIRC. The sites in 2000 are bigger.

Just given the odds on the number of sites it's almost a 3:1 bet you will be assigned 2000 plus because of the location 1500 is requested more often than 2000, I would think. Every time I've stayed in a Tent site at the Fort I've requested 1500 but sometimes it's been full. 2000 is okay though.

So request 1500 on your ressie or on your early checkin option in MDE. Best thing you can do to help yourself is to arrive as early as possible on the day you check in so in case you aren't pre-assigned to 1500, you can request right there to be swapped over to it. If the CM can, they will.

Yes, you can ship your non perishable items to the Fort. You will need to clearly mark the package with your reservation number and dates you are staying.

Thanks CooperGear. We plan to drive down in a mini van with our four kids and all of our camping gear! I'm going to need all the extra room I can get!

Just a FYI the all white chicken on the take out meal usually contains wings also (which are white meat), which are smaller. Not saying that you didn't get all breast meat, but that's not usually the case.

Just because you don't have an RV doesn't mean you can't stay at the Fort. The Cabins will sleep 6 and my family would rather stay at the Cabins than any other Disney Resort.

Guess I'm really naive, but if you have to meet off property to pick up the golf cart, how do you then get it to the Fort??
