This time next week we'll be getting ready for breakfast at Cindy's!!!! I have a 17 mo. old and a 4 year old. I've already requested a high chair, and I know there's a Pack 'N Play in every room. However, is it possible to get from Mousekeeping a bed rail so the 4 year old doesn't tumble out? Does anyone know if it's possible to get a baby gate? We're trying to decide if we should bring ours - the 17 mo. old is into everything, and we're finding that when we're trying to get ready to go somewhere, the best thing to do is gate him in somewhere with some toys so he doesn't get into trouble or get hurt. I'll be bringing outlet protectors - he's also fascinated by outlets! Any other safety issues I'm forgetting? I know we'll probably have to take the chairs off our balcony if we plan to let him wander out there.

As to the bed rails, just call lodgekeeping, and they'll bring them right up. As to the gate, I don't know which size unit you're staying in, but personally I don't think a gate will do any good. You'll have to lock him/her in the master bedroom, and they will still have access to the stub/sink area of the bathroom. In a two bedroom, still have access to the sinks and maybe outside door, if you have a lockoff unitl. There isn't anywhere to use the gate anywhere else, since there is no where to put the gate.

We requested bedrails for our 3 y/o prior to our arrival and they were in the room when we arrived. We used the Pack N Play as a crib for our 15 month old, but we also put him in there with a few toys when we needed him to stay put for a few minutes without getting into trouble. So, if a gate won't work, maybe the Pack N Play would be useful as a safe play space as well as a crib.

Good luck!

Thanks for your help. We'll definitely be using the pack 'n play as a "playpen" as well as a crib - we do that at home, why wasn't I thinking that we would do that on vacation, too???? This should be an interesting trip, to say the least!

We just got back from VWL with a 4year old and a 20month old. The whole place was mostlly "kid-proofed". The one thing I would suggest is a night light. It does get dark in the rooms at night. Have fun on your trip. We had 9 wonderful days and everything was fantastic.

We also bring a small fan or sound machine. They drown out a lot of the noise in the hallways (especially at nap time). Our 4 y.o. (who is small for her age) actually looks forward to WDW so she can sleep in a pack and play! We put a sheet across the top and she calls it her fort. I think her 6 y.o. brother is actually jealous that he doesn't get to sleep in a fort too  . She'd probably never sleep in one at home but thinks its cool on vacation - go figure. So maybe if your 4 y.o. is small, and goofy like mine, she'll want to sleep in one too. Also, a late night swim always cools our kids off and tires them out and they're asleep within minutes. Good luck.

P.S. Keep those balcony doors locked at all times - we often don't even use the balcony just so we don't have to worry about whether we locked the door or not. (Can you tell I'm a worrier?)

I was there last Sept with a 3 yo and 2 yo. It was not too bad as far as the safety issue is concerned, but be careful of the balcony. That was kinda scary, especially since there are chairs out there. I am not sure where you would put up a gate, there is no place to put one unless you closed him/her into a bedroom. You'll be fine, have fun and relax, you'll be in Disney!!!!!!!:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Just one more plug for watching out for the balcony. Even a short moment could be real trouble if it's left open and unattended. Also, make sure things like the toaster and coffee pot are unplugged when not in use.

Most of all, enjoy your trip! What wonderful ages for children to experience the magic of WDW! :)
