Ask your Dr about Stromectal. It works. No picking and combing.

Some people won't like it because it is a pill, but when you are dealing with a severe problem and a kid with thick long or curly hair it is a lifesaver.

Ugh, I feel for you. My DDs have had it twice--once about three weeks after WDW trip and youngest tried on every hat in every gift shop. I still get the itchies looking at those pictures!

We just went through this in January. We homeschool so figure we got infected at WDW on our mid December trip.

It went around DD's classroom three times last year! DD got it once, then found it just starting again (2 lice, no nits yet) and nipped it in the bud that day. Turns out the kids were sharing headphones in the classroom and all their coats were jammed into a small area.

Here is what I swear by after you pick out all the nits. The stuff the doctor recommended from the pharmacy wasn't killing the lice and could only be used every 7 days.

Then everyday (or every few days) I used LiceFree! from Walgreens until I knew we were in the clear:

Yeah, that's how we usually feel, too. Me and the kids are really careful about that stuff. However, this time, my DD15 was buying a really cute Santa /Mickey ears hat - the kids wear them to school for events, etc. - and she was just looking at it trying to decide and my DH plopped one right on her head. Her eyes got huge and she looked at me like "OMG! What did he just do!" She wasn't the one that got lice though! Go figure!

I can honestly say, lice isn't something I'm too worried about getting in WDW even though there are lots of opportunities to pick it up. I'm too busy worrying about bringing home bed bugs or getting the flu and it ruining the trip!

LOL, definitely no shortage of bug issues to worry about at WDW! Don't forget the lovebugs in September. Be sure to add those to the list!

Got it on our first family trip to WDW... trying on hat after hat while taking pics in MK on July 4 was a bad idea...now I will not try on/wear a new hat unless it is sealed in plastic. I and the kids all had them. Gah so gross.

Many lice are resistant to the chemical pesticides commonly used in the shampoos. I remember the batch we had just marching through the foam unfazed.

Physical removal is key... invest in a good lice comb, a metal one.
Our routine was slather the hair in cider vinegar (loosens the egg cases) and let sit for a few minutes, then using copious amount of conditioner comb very thoroughly. Do daily for the first week and then repeat every 48 hours for another two weeks, this way you catch them before they can reproduce and lay new eggs

I would do a comb through every few weeks just to keep an eye on things. also always kept my daughter's long hair in braids all the time for school.

Trust was letting my husband comb my hair, also gives a new appreciation to the phrase "being nitpicky"
