What does it mean if someone says about someone at work "He is an Institution here"?

It means that person is as well known, figuratively, as the building/business/organization/whatever that the person is being associated with. And probably, though not always, well respected. Bob Hope was an insitution of Hollywood, Babe Ruth of baseball, Mickey Mouse of WDW.
