DH and I are going for our 15th anniversary and our birthdays in Sept. This is our first trip sans kids, and we were planning on going to SOA and saving HDDR for the next trip with the kids. (we've never seen either) But I've been reconsidering. There isn't time or budget to do both. Which would you choose and why?

I've only been to HDDR but I've heard good things about SOA also.

In '96 DH and I went to Hoop by ourselves and had a blast. In a couple of weeks we are going again but with our 3 children, 11, 8 &4.

You probably can't make a wrong decision. They both are good in their own ways.

I might lean towards the SOA just because it is more romantic. BUt I've never done it, maybe someone who has done both could tell us. Sorry I wasn't much help. :)

DH and I went to both on our honeymoon. It was in January, so both shows were fairly empty (and that may have changed the atmosphere of them), but we didn't enjoy HDDR at all. We're in the minority here, but it just wasn't for us. I totally expected for us to love it, given how cheesy (ahem, Cheesy, with a capital C) my husband is. But we thought the show was overly hokey, and were totally disappointed in the food. We liked the Luau a lot better. While the show was still hokey, I enjoyed the dancing a lot more, and loved the food. I could have eaten nothing but the salad and bread the whole night, they were soooo good! My choice would be the Luau, but like I said, most here seem to like HDDR better. I think you'll be fine either way!

I would say two adults will normally enjoy the SOA more as it is geared to an older audience and the food is probably more to your liking as well. The HDDR is a great show but is geared more towards kids and the young at heart (singing, dancing, audience participation) and is a western themed show. The food is served family style (large portions on serving dishes) and is average at best but I think kids would prefer this food to the SOA as well. So for kids - I would think HDDR; adults SOA. I personally enjoy both shows but I am pretty tacky and get a kick out of making a fool out of myself (although at HDDR it is hard to do as most are trying and succeeding at doing so).
