DH and I are taking our family (DS 9, DS 5, MIL 65, BIL 40) on their first trip to WDW in December, and I thought the Hoop Dee Doo Review would be a fun dinner for the whole family.

I was looking at the seating chart for the different categories, and although Category 1 seating is on the floor and may be preferred by most, I was thinking that perhaps Category 3 balcony seating could be nice because:

1. You're up high, so you'd get a nice overall view of the stage.

2. You wouldn't have another table in front of you, blocking your view.

3. It may feel less congested up there since you're not surrounded by so many tables.

I could be wrong though, since DH and I have never been to HDDR before, so I'm not quite sure about the setup.

Anyway, does anyone prefer Category 3 balcony seating? Or is Category 1 seating the only way to go to get a great view of the show?

HDDR is alot of fun. We've eaten both on the floor & in the balcony. I think the floor seating is a little bit better than the balcony, but I did not think the balcony seating was bad, either. FWIW, I didn't feel that the tables on the floor were too close together or congested & the tables in front of us didn't block our view. IMO, I would probably choose the floor seating over the balcony, but I wouldn't be upset if for some reason I had to get the balcony seating. Either way, you should have a great time!

I've done HDD twice and loved it both times. The first I was up on the balcony on the right side towards the middle and the second time I was on the floor towards the front left. I think both times the view was pretty good. I think that on the bottom, it really felt like we were closer, but the good thing about the top is that you have to look over any heads or any of that stuff. And also the cast and all them, go upstairs and everything, so the top is not a bad option!

We are a party of 7 and we are split between two tables, not sure about 6. It is my understanding that guests only sit on the one side (the side closest to the railing) of the narrow table, on chairs that swivel around so that you can turn between your dinner, and the balcony railing. I also was only able to get balcony seats, and am not too sure about them....but haven't heard any awful things about them, so they must be fine.

When I went a few weeks ago we had Cat 2 seating in the back of the floor but our tables were higher than the other tables on the floor. We had a great view over everyones heads. Next time we go I am going to try to get these seats again!

I would be disappointed to get balcony seating; I would feel a little disconnected from the show.

Hey, we sat there on our last visit as well! I liked it too! We could see just fine. Our server was a big dork though! :rotfl:
